“more a cafe than restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

alyeska is basically a ski resort but is also an accesspoint for the portage glacier cruise. We spent two night in alyeska at the resort which has comfortable and scenic accommodation. The town of girdwood is different and we visited Chair 5 the first evening for a bit of local culture as it is a bar/eatery which the locals seem to frequent - basically pub food with a range of beers on tap. friendly staff and buzzing. for breakfast we tried the bakery which provides a range of soups and salads but also a home made granola which is fantastic. Good coffee and well worth a visit.

“run by the mob”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

dirtiest place ive ever seen, health department should have shut down long time ago-Bribes? who knows. no other restaurant lets employees smoke in plian sight of costomers (especially because it is blatantly against local law), or keeps a giant cash safe in back. Discourages any non cash transactions, obvious disregard for quality standards, cosidering the fact that 3 day old costco donoughts suffice as knockoffs for homemade doughnuts at $2.50 apice.

“Worst Place- Avoid”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2011

We stopped at Alpine Diner and Bakery in Girdwood for a quick lunch and we were completely disappointed. The waitress was so rude. I ordered an ice tea that came without ice. After asking for ice several times, I asked "it is possible to get some ice?" she said "I doubt it". (there is a gas station next door with ice for sale if the restaurant it out). The food was awful $14! for chicken fingers that were cold and hard. My BLT tasted like sawdust. The personal hygiene and sanitation of the server was disgusting. As I stood next to the cash register to pay, she hocked a lugi in the trash right in front of me. Do yourself a favor and keep driving up to Jack Sprat's or the bakeshop in Girdwood- avoid this place at all costs!

“Avoid!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2011

This bakery used to have the best cinnamon rolls in the area. It has gone downhill (badly) in the past few years. Stopped in today for a treat and paid $2.25 for one under-proofed, over-fried chocolate bar. There was little variety and no juices besides Kirkland diet teas.

The cashier was curt, with a sour attitude. She obviously did not want to be there.

The dining area was disgusting. Floors were covered with grime; they looked like they hadn't been mopped in months. Tables and chairs were covered in crumbs. All in all, you'll likely have a better experience if you go to the gas station next door for breakfast.
