“Loved the Location and Newly Refurbished Room”

I stayed here before an inside passage cruise on Regent Seven Seas Mariner. I was in one of the newly refurbished rooms and it was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The bedding was almost identical to Westin Heavenly bed which I like a lot. We had two very comfortable lounge chairs in the room which overlooked the mountain. The bathroom room had locally branded amenities and was newly tiled with a good shower. Rooms had robes and slippers.

I did not experience any of the service problems mentioned by others since checkin and checkout was handled by our pre cruise guide. The limited interactions I had with lobby staff were fine. Restaurant personnel were another story. We ate breakfast in the hotel and waitstaff was unprofessional and disinterested. We also has a great meal but with very, very slow service at the Seven Glaciers Restaurant at the top of the mountain. The views from Seven Glacier Resaurant are stunning!

As others have mentioned the setting of the hotel is gorgeous. It is very intimately surrounded by mountains and wonderful hiking trails.

“Conference Destination”

Hotel Alyeska

Aug 16, 2007

We stayed four nights for a conference at this resort, which is a study in contradictions. It has a beautiful location, the grounds, the gardens, ponds, and surrounding trails are truly lovely. Unfortunately the staff do not reflect this atmosphere, most could have been wearing t shirts that read "I'd rather be fishing, skiing, anywhere but here. . ." BUT the tram operators were both friendly and informative, and the girl at the pool in the evenings always had a smile. There are several amenities, shops, cafes, kiosk, pool, hot tub, BUT no hotel directory to help you find them without wandering around. There was a "please help us save the environment by reusing your towels" sign in the bathroom BUT plastic bottled water next to the ice buckets and no recycling containers for bottles and cans. There are several ice and snack dispenser machines BUT most are out of order, five floors up for ice? When we told the front desk about the machines, the reply was, "We know.". Everytime we went by the expresso and snack kiosk it had a sign that read, "closed, be back in five minutes" .
We had a very small double room with a partial scenic view, wi-fi that was troublesome( BUT wi fi in the public lounges worked better) and closet doors that didn't slide until my husband fixed them. There is a large board in the lobby featuring their future redecorating theme BUT it had not yet reached our floor. Things were a bit worn around the edges, stained drapes, ripped wallpaper, banged up/nicked furniture BUT great down bedding. Centrally controlled heat/air, a window that opens a bit BUT has no screen. This place could be a wonderful resort, BUT we only used it to attend the conference and as a base to sightsee, we didn't use the restaurants or shops or trails as much as we could have. Overall, we felt it was a bit overpriced until the improvements are completed and most of the staff given personality transplants.

“Great room...poor service staff”

I'm glad we only booked one night at The Alyeska. It seems this beautifully located hotel has recently changed hands and the staff is undirected and unmotivated to put on a good face for the guests. We paid a good amount ($247) for our room, booked through our Alaska travel agent well in advance. But, upon arrival they told us they didn't have our requested King-bed room and tried to place us in a room with 2 doubles. Eventually we were offered a handicapped-equipped room with a King bed and a lovely view of the mountains, which was great.

When we asked for a map of the facilities we were told there were none available. This made it difficult to find our way around. We went off-site for dinner rather than deal with the uncooperative employee attitude. Even the girl in the gift shop couldn't muster-up a smile.

We called in advance to arrange for massages. The prices were very expensive and really not worth half of what we paid. We get weekly massages at home, so we know what is expected. We paid $200 each for a one-hour and fifteen minute hot-stone massage. Later, they called our room to say I had left my hair clip, but when I went back after dinner, they were closed. A couple of days later when we were passing
through the area, I went back to get it but was told they didn't know
where it was. Even "lost and found" didn't have it. That's a small thing, but indicative of a larger problem, I believe. One bright spot
was the girl behind the espresso machine. She was great.

We have stayed in accomodations in 25 different countries and this hotel was one of the very best. Luxurious, but not stuffy. We felt is was a good value, with flawless execution. Their high end restaurant may only be reached by cable car. (If you don't have a reservation the cable car is $15.) The views are spectacular, and with the great scenic ambience, an unusual occurance, the food was excellent. Overall, just a great experience.
A note, tucked away, but close to the hotel is a great little breafast place by the name of "The Bakery">

“Good hotel”

Stayed here for from July 16-18. Had two rooms in the 8th floor. Got the summer getaway package which gave tram tickets and free lunch at the restaurant on top of mt. alyeska. We used the tram tickets only.

The hotel is quite nice. I believe 8 th floor summit rooms were recently redone and were quite comfortable. You could make out that everything was fairly new. We had a room facing the mountain and the tram. The refrigerator came in handy.

3 (out of the 4) in my group are vegetarians and they made us vegetarian entrees that were not on the menu. Overall service was very good.

The tram trip was quite nice and you have a great view from the top of the mountain. Ate lunch one day at the Pond cafe - which is basically the same menu as room service.
