“Favorite Hotel of My Alaska Trip!”

My favorite hotel of my 10-night stay in Alaska! Definitely the most high-end property where we stayed, with valet parking, room service, on-site spa, lovely indoor pool, outdoor gardens, several dining options (although we ate elsewhere), several shops, game room, fish pond, aerial tram access to the top of the mountain. I wish that we had spent more than one night here--the mattress/bedding was fantastic and the room layout was clever. We were upgraded to a renovated room/floor, and the bedroom/sitting area could be closed off with louvered doors from the sink/bathroom area. (My husband didn't even hear me wake up and get ready as a result.) Rooms had everything imaginable (hairdryer, luxurious toiletries, safe, minibar, game unit, heated towel rack, robes/slippers, doorbell, ice service) for a comfortable stay. Several restaurants are nearby, within a very short drive (but probably not a quick walk): Jack Sprat (highly recommended) and the well-known Doubly Musky (but we weren't feeling Cajun/Creole that night). Would absolutely stay here again--this hotel would be at home in any metropolitan US city.

My family really liked this hotel. It is an attractive property both inside and outside with pleasant gardens, well-maintained hiking trails, good restaurants, an indoor pool, fitness faciliities, a knowledgeable concierage staff, and the novelty of the tram to the top of the mountain. We stayed here three nights and never lacked for things to do.

We did see two black bears on the roam around the area, one of which growled at us, so be aware that they are out and about. My kids also saw a moose while on the way down the mountain in the tram.

The only downside was that we were at the hotel mid-week and two of the four restaurants were closed at dinner time. On the plus side, this drove us out into the town where there are plenty of other dining options.

Stayed here for 2 nights at the end of May. Was Memorial Weekend. However very quiet. I do not think they were full. We arrived around 2 and our room was ready. The room was clean and the carpet, bedspreads and furnishing were new. The first morning we had to drive to Whittier for a day boat tour. It was easy and only about 20 minutes. We also did the Tram. They have a nice new museam at the top. Interesting to look at. Their is also a small snack area for pop, coffee etc. We bough some coffee and brownies then picked a table next to the windows and just took in the VIEW!!! Lots of snow was left. The tram was fun and I am afraid of heights.

We ate intown (Girdwood) and Chair 5. Clean, friendly place and awesome hamburgers and pizza. We ate both suppers here. Would stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights in May 2008 and we liked it very much. First I wasn’t sure if we should stay here on our first night in Alaska since it’s 40 miles from Anchorage and I thought that we would be too tired to drive there after our long flight. I’m happy that I chose to stay there instead of Anchorage. The drive was not a problem at all, very scenic and at least in May not so much traffic, and it was nice getting away from Anchorage. The hotel is old but they keep it in good shape. We loved the view from the Seven Glaciers Bar. I think this is one of the nicest hotels in Alaska but keep in mind that this is Alaska not Aspen or Banff, things here are simpler but the prices are not.
