“Perfect!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

I traveled here with two friends on a heli-skl trip just a few weeks ago. The hotel was perfect in many ways:

Room: we stayed in a junior suite was comfortable (even with 3 guys) enough room for ourselves and all our ski gear.

Hotel: Great location, clean, big, great views. Great restaurants including good sushi, burgers and pizza. The pool was nice even with some kids you could still find space in either the hot tub or pool. The tram leaves right from the back door as well as the heli and snowcat operations from CPG.

We choose this hotel because of the location to the mountain and skiing and it was perfect for that!!

The Hotel Alyeska is a very laid back resort that has all the amenities that you would want from a resort without being pretentious. There are many different dining options within the hotel and a free shuttle to Girdwood if you don't like the offerings at the hotel. The aerial tram is easily accessible. I particularly enjoyed the hot tub and pool area. The hot tub is quite large and has an amazing view of the mountain. The one downside was that I was there during spring break and the pool was an absolute mad house at points. Same goes for the elevators at times. You could tell the hotel was probably full, but it still never felt crowded.

Large group of skiers (170+) from New York descended upon the Hotel Ayeska for a week of winter fun (skiing, snow-cat sking, helicopter skiing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, helicopter tours, snow shoeing and cross country skiing). Weather was nicer than excepted and we got new snow almost every day. No crowds meant we found fresh tracks all day long. The hotel layout is great with easy access to lifts and ski back convenience.Large modern rooms nicely furnished with comfortable beds. The large (very) hot tub was great and the salt water pool we used everyday. Leisurely breakfast at the hotel restaurant was good (better than expected from some of the earlier reviews). Evening restaurant was very good. For dinner we went to Jack Sprat restaurant twice (5 minute shuttle ride) which everyone agreed was excellent. Snow shoe trails "Winner Creek" was a nice hike we took on a day off skiing. We took trail to the "hand tram" (closed in winter). The hotel is very quiet and relaxing place. Hotel housekeeping was great and kept us stocked with water bottles and pillow chocolates for the whole trip. Easy access from Anchorage to the hotel (less than 1 hour by bus) was another plus. Already talking about returning to see more of Alaska in the summer time.

Room Tip: Even number rooms typically look out over the mountain

We stayed here for 2 nights on our Alaska trip. I had wanted to stay here for sometime...thought it would be wonderful. Well, it wasn't.

From the outside, the grounds looked a little rough..not manicured. But, I guess this is Alaska.
Check in was easy though the young girl was not really interested in her job. She kept talking to the guy who was also working the desk. The lobby could have been nice but it looked "cheap". Alot of people sitting around on wi-fi.

The hallway to our room was all banged up ...I guess from skis in the past or luggage carts. Carpet was old and dirty with stains. Hallway was HOT.

Room was basic for $289.00 + tax a night. Pieces of the furniture were banged up as well. The bathroom faucets/fixtures looked years old. The entire room just made us feel dirty. We did sleep fine though. No noise problems...and we thought there would be for sure(see below).

Down at the bar, there were people who should not have been served booze. A couple local guys were really drunk and swearing(with the f word) loud. The bartender just kept giving them more. My spouse went to the front desk to tell them...all he got was...sorry. The tables looked like they were not cleaned from previous patrons. No real atmosphere in there at all.

We dined at Seven Glaciers one evening. One takes the tram up to get there. We enjoyed the view more than the food. It was nothing fabulous especially for the prices they charge. It was a memorable night though. Not that many tables so be sure to make a reservation early on if you want to dine there. Very casual attire worn by most folks. Service was slow.

The little town of Girdwood is nice and has a few places to eat.

I am glad we got to stay here but it was not anything like I thought it would be. We would not return.

On a clear day, the view from the tram is unbeatable, and the food in any number of the restuarants is solid - Sakura is great, the Sitzmark is reliable bar food with great nachos, the 7 Glaciers is expensive so take pictures and just enjoy it. Bake shop for breakfast or the soup for lunch. Java Hut for coffee. The hotel is a romantic place, but it can be loud, its rooms are just hotel rooms and are a bit on the expensive side. Its always a splurge when we stay but we've taught our kids to ski here and they have grown up and skiid everywhere on the mountain. Its not perfect, as you can dig around the other negative reviews, but polite requests to try to fix things go a long with with the front desk, and they will address and try to accommodate reasonable requests. We have been staying for 15 years now and will continue to do so into the future. we have stayed over Christmas and New Years and the hotel staff have clamped down on the rampant loud partying in the last few years (like 5 or so).

Room Tip: Upper rooms are quieter. Travelers with kids will like the 3rd floor - close to pool entrance.

If you are looking for luxury accommodations with skiing and snow boarding or just looking for a beautiful valley where there are seven glaciers in view , this is the place. The service is outstanding and the restaurants are unique and the surroundings are breathtaking. For tourists passing through this is must see. If you don't stay at least stop in for a look and perhaps a meal.

This resort is nice.
Clean rooms, nice lobby and good amenities.
However, it doesn't feel like Alaska. In fact, the
prices for everything are more than at any other
place I've stayed in the world...
Breakfast at the Pond Cafe was exactly what
all are dinners have been. Overpriced and small
portions...
Rentals, snowcat skiing, heli tours are all ridiculously
priced.
It makes no sense to spend the extra money
to fly here just to spend more money than
at any other resort in the states.
The mountain isn't very big and offers nothing
any other mt wouldn't
It doesn't feel like Alaska.
So save some dollars and go somewhere closer
