We took our first trip to Alaska from July 5-17, 2008 and the Girdwood Guest House was our first stay. It is about a 40 minute drive from the Anchorage airport. The rates are very reasonable, much less than the motels in Anchorage, and the drive to Girdwood is beautiful. This B & B has a small living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. The bed is very comfortable and Judy makes "delicious" homemade bread and jelly, along with milk, juice, hot and cold cereals. It is a very cozy place to stay. Judy is a gracious hostess whom we talked to the next morning. We did not get to meet her husband, Pat, as we had to leave early for Seward. It was great start to our incredible 2 week adventure in Alaska. If we go back, we will definitely stay there. Be sure to check out their Web Site to get pictures and additional information. Stayed here two separate nights. Once on our way to Seward, and then again on our way back up to Anchorage. Lovely stay both times. Pat and Judy are very hospitable. Judy brings down homemade bread everyday. It was wonderful. I think some of the jelly is homemade also. Very nice touch. Answered questions about the area. Dinner recommendations. Judy even shared her bear encounter with us on our second visit.
The bed was very comfortable. There are two futons in the apartment. I would hate to have to sleep on one of those!! There is a washer and dryer in the apartment, and guests are encouraged to use if necessary. There is a fee, but it was a lot more conveinent that going to the laundry mat.
The area is beautiful, and I would love to see it blanketed in snow!!

Nice one night stay. The homemade bread was great, bed was comfy, the TV worked well as did all the appliances. It was like a home away from home. One minor complaint: in the morning I could hear the hosts walking above me. I usually stay on top floors in hotels so hearing footsteps is not my favorite thing to hear early in the morning. I have to say though that I knew beforehand that this was the setup, that the hosts live above the ground floor apartment so I was not surprised. I just thought that future guests should be aware of this if they are light sleepers like myself. The entire night was quiet though so I'd give the place a thumbs up.

Jack Sprats was not a bad restaurant within walking distance but they seemed a bit pricey and slow and they charged extra for bread. I thiought they only did this in London. At least they could have said something when we asked for it. One other restaurant charged for bread )It was in Seward) so maybe it's an Alaska thing. I'm from New York and now live in L.A. and have never been charged extra for bread. I know flour has gone through the roof but charging for bread is well.. unAmerican."
Please complain if it happens to you. We did.

this was by far the best night stay we had, the bed was the most comfortable, we had a family of 4 and we were not crowded. It was wonderful to be able to do our wash for a small fee, and to be able to make breakfast the next morning. There was wonderful homemade bread waiting for us. I will recommend this to my friends or to anyone in that area. It was the favorite nights stay of our 17 night trip to Alaska that included a Princess Lodge and a Princess Cruise.. The bed could not be beat, our best rest was at the Girdwood Guesthouse! M. Welke

Our family spent a wonderful winter holiday at this beautiful B&B. Everything was so clean and beautifully kept. It was located within walking distance of the lifts on Mt. Alyeska and local restaurants. Our hosts, Judy and Pat, gave us tours of the mountain and skied with us many times

The king sized bed is super comfortable, as is the queen futon. There is even a lovely kitchen and laundry in the B&B. It is especially nice because it is private with a separate entrance.
The rate is very reasonable, in fact, it is one of the best values we found for our vacation. We will go back to Girdwood Guest House. We highly recommend this B&B.
