We paid $181 for the REALLY Nice Sheraton in Anchorage at the end of our trip and paid $156 at the Eagle River Motel at the beginning of the week at Eagle River. For $25 less there were HUGE differences! On the plus side: 1. it was clean, 2. it included a mini kitchen and 3. had two pull out sofas so our teenage boys did not have to share a bed. On the down side: 1. the rooms were old and 2. had to drag heavy suitcases up 2 flights of stairs. For one night, passing through it served it's purpose and we appreciated the extra room. When we booked, they told us they had new owners and it would include a continental breakfast. When we got there, they said they had new owners and it DID NOT include breakfast!
We liked the Eagle River area and there is a Fred Meyer grocery store just down a few blocks. This was a great place to get food for breakfast and stock up on food for the drive to Denali.
