We arrived at Eagle River to falling beautiful snow that was accumulating on the 3 1/2 feet of the white beautiful stuff that was already on the ground. The mountains and scenery were breathtaking. As you drive down the highway there is no slush or mud making the snow the dark colors you experience in the Detroit Metro area when it snows.
There are no chuck holes and they do not use salt on the roads.Moose on the side of the roads are common and I personally saw at least 20 of these great animals in 7 days.We arrived on December 23, 3004 and returned on the 30th. The best part was the people who were very friendly and outgoing Alaskans. We stayed at the Microtell Inn and it was great. Walking distance to everything such as restaurants, bars and shopping. The employees of the Microtell were great in every way and the service was like that at a 5 start hotel. It took awhile getting used to the Sun rising at around 11 am and setting at around 3 pm giving you only a few hours of daylight but that was interesting in itself.Looking forward to returning in the Summer so we may take cruises to view the Glasiers which the ships do not run during the Winter months. It was a great trip and I recommend it to all.
