We were in desperate need for a good break after a busy work schedule………..
'Where do we find a place in the sun, where we could relax and unwind in quiet luxury and comfort that didn’t break the bank?' we asked.
We mentioned our dilemma to clients who said they knew of the exact place.......a newly built resort in Rarotonga with exquisite private bungalows centred around an inviting pool and BBQ area. What more could a couple want? We were booked, and off -with friends in tow!
The owners, Judy and Barry collected us from the airport and took care of all our wishes from whoa to go. Nothing was too much trouble for them - pointing us in the right direction, from where to get the best fish (which we cooked on the BBQ), the best snorkelling and even the best position at the resort for the magic evening sunset.
The bungalows were very much in keeping with the island theme – thatched roofs, bamboo style and a luxurious private open air bath and shower. Blobbing out in the afternoon with a good book and a cold drink was the order of the day; every bungalow had a sea view and a deck – so an excellent spot for a ‘Nana-Nap’
We hired a car and explored the island taking in the many gastronomic delights at the local restaurants; our favourite within walking distance on the beach near Magic Reef Bungalows itself! Early a.m. golf was not far away and many times during the day and late into the evening was spent in and out of the seductive pool. Such hard work…..
Hard to leave, but so looking forward to our next break at Magic Reef – you all enjoy in the meantime! Special thanks to our hosts Barry and Judy.

We stayed at the Magic Reef for 9 days. The entire premise is amazing!! From the Sailing ship pool looking out to sea to the beautiful sea views from ALL bungalows. We had bungalow number 6 (which I highly reccommend) The price is right whilst still maintaining a level of competitiveness on the island. The hosts were extremely friendly and more than willing to help accomodate the needs of every person staying there. The rooms were serviced to an excellent standard - this is a good thing having spent nights at other resorts that were...how shall I say it - GROSS. Can't beat a good level of cleaniness!! The sun always seemed to shine on the Magic Reef. Theres so much i could say... another area to highlight was the incrediable outdoor shower/bath area. This was very cool indeed! Something you'd never dream of doing coming from a New Zealand winter. The Magic Reef was so awesome to stay at i'll definitely be going back to stay there next year! I suggest you do too.

I enjoyed a fantastic five-day stay at Magic Reef with my girlfriend. The quality of the rooms is excellent. The bamboo style bungalows are simple but elegant and are self contained with a fridge and cooking elements so if you just want to stay at Magic Reef you have the option. There are really good restaurants near by too. The beach at Magic Reef is lovely although there are better spots for swimming else where on Rarotonga. But, Magic Reef has a fresh water pirate ship-themed swimming pool which is very nice and covered by sun shades. The grounds are very tidy and beautiful. The whole location is very relaxing and romantic and the staff at Magic Reef are very welcoming and willing to help with questions or ideas for things to do. Magic Reef is a wonderful spot for kicking back, soaking up sun, reading a book or a romantic getaway for two.
