We looked at doing the 3 1/2 hour trek with Pa but after reading the bad reviews we decided to try this ourselves. You need a certain level of fitness as it's very steep in places, we were on hands and knees holding on to tree roots. Do not try this when it's raining - would be dangerous. Doing this ourselves allowed us to take our time, we took water and snack breaks and it was well worth the climb for the view at the top. Couldn't have done it with Pa yelling at us to hurry up (we heard about his military style speed on the walk) and rather than go down the other side of the mountain we went back down the path that we took up. Just take it slowly and it's fine - much less time than 3 1/2 hours!
Make sure you park your car at the sign which says not to go past that point. There are a couple of roads just after the sign - the one to the right leads to accommodation - do not go up that one, head left. Look for the orange markers once you get on the track.
