This place is great -- worth the extra time it takes to get here. They did have a recent bear mauling near the lodge so they did have warning signs posted to alert all guests and staff. Staff was extremely friendly and overall - we loved our 2 night stay. The color of the Kenai River is amazing. We're not fishermen but did enjoy seeing the anglers in the river. Wished we had time for a rafting trip down the river. We stopped again at this place on our way back from Homer to enjoy a coffee break on their amazing deck.

Best Place we stayed in Alaska

We visited this area of Alaska as just a side trip on the way to Seward. We visited the lodge and had dinner there. The lodge is surrounded by mountains and is right above the amazing Kenai River.

So off to Seward we went. After we were done with the glacier cruise in Seward, my wife and I both wanted to go back to Cooper Landing and we were lucky that this lodge had an opening. The rooms are huge and the surrounding scenery is spectacular as mentioned above. Both dinners we had at the restaurant were great and the service was good as well. Any way they prepare the halibut is good.

We tried to get a another night there but they were booked.

One side note- If you are on the Seward Highway near Cooper Landing and looking for a breakfast spot, the Summit Lake Lodge's blueberry pancakes were out of this world!

This was the last lodge we stayed at on our Princess pre-cruise landtour and we thought it was the best of all those we had visited. The wooden cabins were very spacious but cosy with two comfortable double beds, sofa, armchair, chest of drawers and a woodburning stove which we lit each evening. As with all the lodges, the bathrooms were very clean and supplied with the usual toiletries. The breakfast buffet was excellent as were the evening meals in the restaurant. There is a large wooden deck overlooking the river which is a lovely place to enjoy a cocktail or lunchtime snack. The main building and verandah were decorated with beautiful flower tubs and baskets. You can walk down to the river and also up through the wood, both nice walks and neither are very long. There is a climb back up the hill from the river but not too far and you can choose to ring for the hotel's shuttle to come and collect you from the bottom if you prefer. We would love to return and spend more time here.

Very nice hotel. Our cabin was very clean. The terrace outside of the main building has a great view of the Kenai river. Breakfast was nice (not included), we didn’t go for the buffet instead we had very good pancakes. There is a short walking trail next to the hotel with some informative signs about the vegetation in the area. Our only minor problem in this hotel was the young woman at the information desk that kept engaged in small talk with someone and even though she saw us waiting there she still didn’t make any effort on finishing her conversation and helping us.

As part of a 7 day land package with Princess, we stayed 2 nights at Kenai, 2 nights at McKinley, 1 night at Denali, and 2 nights at Fairbanks. This was by far the most romantic lodge that we stayed in. Staff was very friendly and responsive. View was fantastic. River float in the area was fantastic as we saw 2 grizzlies and numerous eagles that were within a 100' from the Combat fishing that was going on for the sockeye salmon. Wonderful stay and experience

  • Liked — View and accomodations.
  • Disliked — One night of meals the food was not very war.
