“Idea location for visiting Kenai area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2011

Tks Shirley and George for sharing your little piece of heaven in Cooper Landing. Great beds and a lot of hot water for showering. We had the best internet service at the Hutch during our two weeks in Alaska. Short drive to Seward and Soldotna, longer to Homer. Loved George's fire pit "building" that will last forever for those guest to tell tales around the fire about the fish that got away. Hope to stay again and this time we will do some fishing.

The bed was comfortable. The room provided darkness for sleeping, and was clean and well decorated. George was helpful. We enjoyed our stay at the Hutch. The only other comment I would make is that this seemed like more of an Inn than a Bed & Breakfast. It does not provide the breakfast interaction with other guests that occurs at many B & B's. Nevertheless, it was an excellent experience and we would definitely stay at The Hutch again when we are back in Cooper Landing.

This is a great budget choice right on the highway in Cooper Landing, only complaint was no access to river from property to hike or take a stroll. Breakfast filling in the morning. Refrigerator for guest use on each floor in common area. Host is helpful with questions about area, no noise from road interrupted sleep.

We stayed here three nights in the middle of July. We loved it and hope to return someday. The room was spacious and very quiet, the building is solid, and it has solid doors that block out sound from outside. Needless to say we had no trouble sleeping. The inn is very well kept, clean & organized; it has everything you need and then some. The breakfast area has coffee ready all the time and there is plenty to grab for breakfast or a snack later. The nightly camp fire was relaxing at the end of each day, we enjoyed our glass of wine while the kids enjoyed some smores (get your marshmallows & wine up the road at Wildman’s) there are roasting sticks at the fire pit. Everybody welcomed us and made us feel like old friends.

Room Tip: The Shrew's nest is a nice gift shop next door that let us rent some fishing poles, Kenai Float...

Our group of 4 stayed in the cabin for 3 nights in early June 2011. We were all very impressed with our accomodations and the service we received. They really went above and beyond to be sure our vacation went well. The cabin was spacious, clean, and very well stocked. The breakfast each day had a good variety and there was plenty of it. I really can't say enough about how comfortable we were. My 6 year old daughter missed Cindy after we left.

If you're looking at this review, you probably know Alaska lodging isn't inexpensive. So it was a great change to get a comfortable room with very pleasant amenities for such a reasonable price, especially given that it was the middle of the Sockeye salmon run.

As the owners (who are extremely gracious and welcoming) said as we checked in, it's not much to look at from the outside, but it's great that the rooms open into a living area with TVs, movies to borrow, and so on. We enjoyed the fire pit, with songs around the fire. It was excellent to get wifi after a few days being disconnected.

So, if your expectations are set for simple and relatively rustic, I expect you'll be as thrilled with The Hutch as we were.

Our king size room had an amazingly comfortable bed. We were pleased with the size, character, and cleanliness of the room. The room was near a small common area, which was convenient. The Hutch provides a satisfactory continental breakfast: hard-boiled eggs, muffins, bagels, yogurt, cereal and the like. The location, in the center of the Kenai peninsula, is great for persons who want to venture out from Cooper Landing. George and Shirley were great, and are able to provide you with any recommendations you may need. The nightly campfire allows the sharing of stories and adds a lot to your stay at the Hutch.
