“Luxury in Aitutaki”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

My husband and I spent 4 amazing nights at Aitutaki Escape - it exceeded our expectations! From the moment we were picked up and dropped off to the reception area, where we were warmly greeted by our host Vaine we knew we had chosen the right place to stay.

I agree with previous comments the photo's on the website do this place no justice! We were blown away with how stunning our villa was. From the waterfall wall feature to the well appointed kitchen and not to mention the shower, overall excellent attention to detail. Then you take one look outside at the beautiful lagoon and outdoor area...wow!

The private pool was a welcome relief as it was pretty hot due to lack of rain on the Island.
It was private and quiet, in saying that the sound system in the villa is pretty good and we were encouraged to play our sounds and enjoy.

My husband and I would highly recommend staying at Aitutaki escape, it was the perfect end to 2013 . Thank you to Vaine and his lovely wife for sharing their little piece of paradise.

Aitutaki Escape was just what we were looking for- a private home away from home. The villas are beautifully crafted, and we found the location to be an easy bike ride in to town or to the magestic Aitutaki lagoon. A perfect complement to the intimate 3 villa setting was the manager and staff- personal, yet professional, a friend to help you while you're in town. Thank you Vane and Mii- we hope we can say Orana to you once again. J&J

Just like the island itself, the Aitutaki Escape is small, relaxed, and utterly stunning in its beauty. Each villa is a work of art and is clearly a labor of love of Henry and his wife. Everything has been thought out and no detail has been overlooked, right down to the small anchors on the personal kayaks so that you can go snorkeling right from your own boat!

The villas are enormous and each have their own pool, hot tub, kayaks, outdoor BBQ, full kitchen, home theater system, and large front and back terraces with dual sets of loungers. (And indoor decorative water features and sculptures!) Clever use of high quality plate glass for many of the bedroom, bathroom, and living room walls makes the units feel open to the beautiful outdoors even when closed off. All the beams and timbers are oversized and hand-finished which adds a rustic island feel... but there is also sophisticated marble and granite all over the place. Henry told us that when designing the villas, he traveled widely throughout Polynesia to study the best designs of other resorts, and we believe him! The Aitutaki Escape competes favorably with any villa or bungalow we've seen anywhere in the South Pacific.

But what really sets the Aitutaki Escape apart is Henry himself. The level of personalized, friendly, always-on-call service he provided was simply exceptional. He took care of our every need on the island, even offering to drive me to a doctor when I got sick. He also seems to be very well connected to everyone on Aitutaki and Rarotonga and was able to make dinner and activity recommendations and arrangements for us on short notice, including somehow getting us a last-minute Christmas Day reservation at a nearby restaurant that was supposedly booked out. When we needed to change our plans, he was always able to accommodate our needs with a smile. Thank you, Henry!

This is a terrific place and is highly recommended. But in the interest of completeness, here are the drawbacks:

1. The price. It's not cheap.
2. Tap water: Like most places on Aitutaki, the Aitutaki Escape recommends boiling the tap water before you drink it. (But they also provide you a large amount of bottled/filtered drinking water upon arrival.)
3. Air conditioning is in the bedroom only. But front and back doors can be opened to provide plenty of flow-through ventilation to stay cool during the day. Or jump in your own private pool!
4. No on-site restaurant or other big-resort services, which isn't a surprise for such a small hotel. Many good options within a 5-minute scooter ride, and daily continental breakfast is delivered to your door.

We loved our time here and would definitely think of the Escape for a return visit.

Room Tip: There are only three villas and they're all pretty much terrific.

We spent 4 nights at the beautiful Aitutaki Escape for our honeymoon in Nov. We loved the gorgeous, luxury villas; it was a real home away from home (albeit a little more luxurious than our regular home!). The view from the balcony was spectacular and we enjoyed having the choice of just lazing around in the spa and pool or walking to the end of the deck and going for a kayak or snorkel. From the time we arrived at the airport and received flower leis and welcoming smiles, to the time we left, we felt extremely at home with Vane and his staff, they all went out of their way to make our stay a lovely experience and they were extremely helpful with arranging a fishing charter, scooter hire, dinners at local restaurants, providing plentiful and fresh breakfasts and organising a lagoon cruise for us. Staying at Aitutaki Escape was like having our own private little piece of paradise for a few days, we really didn’t want to leave and we certainly plan on visiting again. :)

The Escape and its staff are simply phenomenal! We loved every second of it and can only recommend it! The Villa is amazing with all the privacy and luxury it still feels comfy and like home (or actually better than home :)) Vane and the lovely staff read every wish from our eyes. We loved the quiet that is never boring, the beauty that is never artificial and the service that is just perfect. Book it! You will love it and remember it forever!!!

My Wife and I stay in Aitutaki Escape for our Honeymoon. we stayed for ten nights in Henry's luxury chalets. Not only where the surroundings beautiful but the service was outstanding. Henry and his staff when the extra mile at every stage, but Henry really understands what customers expect from a five star resort, we never wanted for anything, organising trips, booking restaurants, friendy advice, tips or a chat about the rugby where never too much trouble for Henry. If i was to run my ideal resort I would want to treat my guests in exactly the same way as Henry. I can't speak highly enough of the service we were offered.
The venue was beautiful, sat out on the decking or in the hot tub drinking wine, relaxing and watching the beautiful sunsets. Life didn't get any better.
The swimming pool was immaculate, crystal clear and with the occasional crab in it. Henry cleaned the pool pretty much everyday and it was perfect to cool down in after having a sun bathe.
The Chalets where beautiful and the girls kept them immaculate. They where cool in the heat of the day and offered a perfect place to cosy up if you felt like it in the evening. Fantastic large beds with air conditioning to make your evening sleep super comfortable. Fully working kitchen if you feel like cooking, you couldn't want for anymore. Even a selection of DVD's
The beech outside is great for swimming, Snorkelling and canoeing at high tide and but a bit to much coral at low tide. There is a brilliant pool down from aitutaki escape that is nice and deep great for a dip. A quick bike ride takes you round to the laguna on the other side of the islan, which blows you away with it's staggering beauty. The Photo's do it no justice the views are breathtaking the snorkelling outstanding, we saw various interesting fish that are supposed to be a bit rare but i can't remember there names apart from great traveli's and something to do with napoleon. It was wonderful just to pop your snorkel in and swim with you head down and not worry about running into someone else or something else as there is so few people on the island that you can always find a quiet secluded spot.
We went out with Mona's water taxi's on our last two days to Rapota and motorakau. Mona was fantastic again really friendly and flexible, on the first day out he pointed out some turtles swimming through the lagoon. The islands are uninhabited and beautiful. We were joinged by Rapota on the second day by a family of pigs including twenty piglets which my wide and i where particuarly impressed with. they where exceedingly friendly but did like to eat things so you had to be a little firm. you couldn't ask to find a quieter and more peaceful setting than those two islands.
We went out with Teking cruises for an Island hopping day, the tour leader was absolutely brilliant, he had some great stories and insights into the island culture and history. we went snorkelling with thousands of little fish all swimming around. my wife was given bread to hold and the fish swared all around her. we had lunch on akiami with beautiful barbecused mahi mahi and tuna with some salad and other veg and fruit. the island is also a very strong are for nesting red tailed tropic birds with their fantasticly fluffy white chicks, we took plenty of great photo;s of these.
On our second day there we went out whale watching with wet and wild. He tried so hard to find some whales but to no avail. I think i was jinxed as after speaking to other tourists they had all seen the whales from their chalets and when out on other tours. never mind we will jsut have to go back and find some on another trip.
Places to eat are, Tupuna's which do fantastic catch of the day meals, really fresh and tastey. Puffy's takeaway they do great steaks and lovely fish and chips, very different from real fish and chips but still very tastey.
We ate twice at Koru Cafe. Really good home made food, plenty of flavour and plenty on the plate.
on one of the last nights we went to pacific resort, we had a really lovely more traditional meal with a bit of red meat on the menu whilst looking out over the moons glistening reflection on the crystal clear sea. perfect romantic end to a perfect romantic honey moon
we also did an island night at tumanu's, don't bother, not great and over priced.
My wife and I were both very sad to be getting back on the aeroplane home to the UK even if the trip back to the mainland was absolutely stunning.
I would advise anyone to make the journey, completely worth it. But don't tell everyone as we don't want it swamped with people!

The minute we were pickup from the airport we felt welcomed. I cannot add any further comments to what others have stated about the FANTASTIC location and accommodation other than if you are looking for pure luxury and a place that is quiet and private this is the one for you. When we were on the Island we had an opportunity to see other locations that we were thinking of prior to booking with Aitutaki Escape and very pleased that we went with this accommodation. For the price we paid and what we would have stayed in this was the better, more room, more seclusion and the service OUTSTANDING. Vane you have constructed a beautiful little paradise and cannot thank you and your staff for your outstanding service.
