A slice of heaven on earth. It's where Hawaiians go on vacation. Spend the extra dough and get an overwater bungalow..you will reget it if you don't. The sunsets are amazing and the water is gorgeous and calm. I went there for my honeymoon for 6 days last week of January of 2006 - sorry review is a tad late, but wanted to credit where it's earned.

Stayed in papeete at the Sheraton Papeete for two nights also upon arrival - see other review.

I booked through Luxurylink.com - high end travel site, but used a travel agent in Tahiti for everything else. Good place to get a good value at premiere resorts worldwide. Get breakfast included rate if possible.

Pros:

Total seclusion
Beautiful scenery
Great snorkeling
Good food
Strong drinks
Friendly staff
Large spacious bungalows
Kayaks on property
Arranged car rental for us at the resort back in the city
Also can book tours

Cons:
Mosquitoes at night - bring DEET
Resort only accessilble by boat
Very isolated
Thin pillows
Food and drinks are very expensive as is everything in FP.

Go and enjoy!

We just returned from a 10 day trip to Huahine and Bora Bora.We stayed at the TeTiare Hotel for 3 nites before going to Bora Bora.It is hard to descibe how awsome and beautiful it is there. We stayed in a garden Bungalow that was quite large and had a true Polynesian feel to it. Just what we imagined it should be like. The water was crystal clear and calm, The scenery is simply spectaular. The stuff was so friendly and helpful, Anyhting you need they will do it for you.
The food was fabulous, I had my first MahiMahi in Vanilla sauce there.MMMMMMMMMMMMM
We also ate in the little town of Fare one night. So much fun to have to get into a boat to go to dinner. All together this was an incredible vacation. If you want a true polynesian experience with some luxury this is the place to stay.
We will be back for sure!

The good thing about this place is that it is rustic. The bad thing about this place is that it is rustic. I had some reservations about staying here. It looked like the best place in Huanine. So, I thought I would give it a whirl. I don't understand why it would get a 4 star rating. I didn't have a problem with some of the things mentioned in the other reviews. The bed and bedding were fine and clean. The pool was fine. I felt it was very clean, but all the cleaning in the world won't fix black mold. Checking into the Garden Bungalow room, I was assaulted by the smell of mold. I thought it was the air conditioner that had caused the mold on the wall, but on closer inspection it was some sort of plumbing leak that had caused it. No problem, I'll just keep the patio door open, it's just one night. Wrong. The screen had a gap that would not allow it to close. I tried everything to get it to close so I wouldn't get any unwanted bug visitors. The thought of closing up the door and using the air conditioner while inhaling mold is not a pleasant idea for me. Then there was the roof. The thatching of the roof appears to me to be of less thickness than some of the thatching on beach huts. Inferior materials causing a problem. I just got the uneasy feeling something might drop on me from above during the night. So, I decided to go back to the airport and go someplace else! All these things one might encounter when camping. I will say that I saw more fish in the lagoon by the hotel, than any of the other islands I visited. Also, the reception were kind when I explained I didn't want to stay. Everyone else walking around looked happy as clams!

“The Real Deal”

Te Tiare Beach Resort

May 8, 2007

Huahine is everything Bora Bora is not:

authentic, natural, quiet, uncrowded, secluded, private, ....

Te Tiare is the only resort (left) on Huahine and enables you to enjoy the best of both worlds: access to a real and attractive FP island combined with the comfort of a very private (access by boat only) unique resort.

Our deep overwater bungalow was huge and included a large L-shape upper deck and lower diving and shower deck. The grounds are very well manicured, the bar and restaurant are top notch serving excellent cuisine.

One of the high points of Te Tiare are the mother and daughter Manta Ray living there. Each evening at dinner time they would come and dance for us under the lights below the dining room above the lagoon. Magical!

There were a few points which are less positive to mention:

- empty: we were there in low season and the first two nights there were only 5 other bungalows rented; we rarely saw other guests at all

- pool bar/pool: the pool is not up to standard (Who cares...) but because the resort was so empty there was also no service pool/beach side.

- plastic on roofs: Te Tiare is currently re-roofing all the bungalows, but instead of using the traditional local made grass roofs, they are putting up plastic roofs made in Canada....

- A/C: if you need A/C to sleep, the A/C in the bungalows is hopeless

- toilet: the state of maintenance and cleanliness of the toilet room in the bungalow did not keep pace with the rest.

Te Tiare is certainly worth a short stay.

“Absolutely Fabulous”

Te Tiare Beach Resort

My boyfriend took me to FP for my birthday in February of last year. We stayed in overwater bungalows on three islands (Bora Bora/ Hotel Bora Bora, Moorea/ Sheraton) and Huahine was our favorite, in large part due to Te Tiare.

The staff was wonderful from the time we arrived. We loved our bungalow which was a corner deep overwater (42, i think); my boyfriend was cannonballing off our deck, the water was so deep. The bungalow was much bigger and more private than the other resorts, although the furnishing weren't as nice which is not to say they weren't fine. The food in the restaurant was adequate at lunch but really nice at dinner. The shrimp tempura was so good, I had it three nights. We sat on the outer decking by the restaurant several times and just loved it. We had dinner in our room one night which was delivered at no extra charge. In fact, we didn't find the food and drink prices bad at all, especially given the location.

We spent one half day riding a moped around the island which was pretty much all the time we needed to see everything. We took the launch into Fare (there's not even a stop light) and just walked to the rental shop. We walked up to the religious ruins and also had lunch on the beach at a little hotel that I think was the Relais Mahana. We were very glad we'd brought our bug spray along for the drive. Huahine was so beautiful, we didn't even mind getting caught in a huge downpour. Oh, when we tried to change money in Fare there was a long line so we decided to just suffer the price gouging at the hotel. Well, were we glad we waited because they didn't charge us any fees at all. We were shocked but it really was par for the course at Te Tiare.

Most of our time we snorkled and swam around our bungalow. Oh, we also took one of Te Tiare's outriggers out; now that was fun! On the whole, we just enjoyed each other's company. We felt cut off from the rest of the world and we just loved it. I thought I'd take a while to unwind as I'm pretty high strung and have a rather stressful job but, within a day, I was totally relaxed. The fact that my blackberry didn't work just added to the fun.

We both loved every minute of our time at Te Tiare. It was a wildly romantic experience and we couldn't possibly complain about any part of our stay. If you like small, personal resorts in one of the most beautiful places you're ever likely to go, you'll be in heaven. If you're lucky enough to go, you'll probably end up like us, with stupid grins on our faces every time we think about our time on Huahine. We cannot wait to go back.
