“wonderful service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2011

My friends and I arrived in Raiatea for a couple of days and due to a problem with the sailboat were delayed in our departure by more than a week. The owner of the Hotel - Oliver - helped us with anything and everything, made us feel at home and was friendlier than anyone could imagine. Food was great, service great, accomodations clean. I would recommend it to anyone.

We stayed here for two nights during the month of May. The owner is incredibly helpful, and right when we arrived he sat us down and explained the details of the hotel and activities we could do. The hotel has an old plantation style, the rooms are great, all with views and have nice and strong working ac.

There is no beach at the hotel, but there is a pier that goes out where you can swim in deep water and enjoy great snorkeling. The hotel offers free to use kayaks and one day we enjoyed kayaking out to a nearby uninhabited motu (small island) where we could enjoy that Robinson Crusoe experience. The hotel also has free bikes, and we enjoyed biking around during sunset.

The food, was fantastic, the best we had in french polynesia, and I would strongly recommend going half board.

Overall, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, for its great location, ambience, and above all price. For what we paid, this place is a steal for French Polynesia.

This was the 6th hotel on our 3.5wk hineymoon. Nice small hotel, great restaurant. Did eat here every day, also because it's located away from anything else. Owners are very friendly, cater to whatever you want.

Took the bikes one day, went into town (all closed on Sunday), but found one store open, so bought some snacks and beer for in hotel room. Balcony is overlooking the garden and sea. Great relaxing, good pool. Rooms are small, just a bed & bathroom. Flowers everyday.

We did the Tahaa lagoon tour, booked through hotel. It's like l'excursion blue, but we used Vai Poe Tours. Same like Aberts tour in Moorea everything was pretty standard, but due to a much smaller boat (and thus 15 instead of 50 ppl) much more relaxed and fun. Highly recommended.

We also took a kayak at the hotel and peddled to a motu across the hotel (15 minutes). Spent the entire day there reading and relaxing at the beach. Watch out for those falling coconuts though!

Stayed 4 days, but as Raiatea isn't that big 3 days would also have been enough for us.

My wife and I stayed here for a blissful week at the end of may/beginning of June 2011.
Olivier is an excellent host and the service went above and beyond what you'd normally expect.
Nothing was too much trouble and it all added to the laid back ambience of the place.
The food was very good-although the menu remained the same for the whole week-but this we decided was probably because many guest seemed to be island hopping and therefore only stayed a few nights.
All in all I would highly recommend the logde for a relaxing holiday with excellent service.

My husband and I just had an amazing vacation in French Polynesia. We stayed in great hotels - the Hilton in Moorea, Four Seasons on Bora Bora, and Raiatea Lodge. We LOVED the experience. The staff is super gracious and laid back, the sunsets and bike rides are what Raiatea is all about - it's a great place to relax. We regret we only stayed 2 nights as the food was by far the best in all of French Polynesia. Take the tour to the Pearl Farm, Vanilla Farm and Taha'a - the coral gardens are so much fun - great snorkeling and very unihabited! Just make sure you have aqua socks for that part.
We loved our trip to French Polynesia and Raiatea Lodge - we'll definitely be back.

We stayed at Raiatea Lodge in May of 2011. The lodge is an excellent place to stay. We stayed there after chartering a sailboat and was a prefect end to the trip. The owner and staff are all wonderful and accommodating.
The rooms are well maintained and the place reminds one of being on an old plantation home.
The food is excellent and fresh. For one meal we saw the fish brought in via boat to the end of the pier.
The ritual of walking to the end of the pier and seeing the sunset is a perfect way to end any day.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. He had been to French Polynesia before but never Raiatea.

The truck was a little late picking us up at the airport, we were the last guests standing there and had a cabbie offer to call our hotel to make sure someone was coming to get us. They were dropping some other guests off so I guess that's why they were late.

The hotel is not far from the airport and is on a big property. The grounds are very nice and it's pretty peaceful there. -Aside from the young screaming children, there was a toddler and a baby staying there, which could be heard all hours on the property. I was surprised how often we saw small children here, since it's such an expensive country to visit.

This was the only hotel we stayed in our trip to French Polynesia, all the rest were B&B types with kitchens, but we had asked if the restaurant could prepare vegan food for us and we were told yes they can accommodate. We brought some fruit with us and ate out a few times, since when we checked in we were told we needed to give lots of advance notice to the kitchen if we wanted to eat at night. Strange.

So we went to the restaurant twice while we were there, as we were kind of dreading it. We were told we could have ratatouille, potatoes, rice, pasta some kind of creation like that. What we got was just stir fried vegetables and a half cup of rice. So needless to say we were very disappointed and confused why the waiter tells us one thing and the kitchen makes another. We had to request more food, because a few veggies an a little bit of rice is hardly enough calories to call a dinner. We were not offered anything else like bread in addition.

It is hard to get veg food at restaurants in French Polynesia so we did self cater almost all the time, but we had specifically checked with this hotel if they could make food before we came and they said yes. And then they failed to deliver and we could not get enough to eat at all. Then they blamed us and said well usually we use cream and cheese so we don't know what you can eat.

Aside from the restaurant being really disappointing and not accommodating, we liked the rest of the resort. The rooms were nice and comfortable, and it was nice to have cleaning every day.

I am glad we came to Raiatea, the lagoon tour on Taha'a and snorkelling was so worth it. Make sure you do that, you get to drift snorkel down a shallow ocean current and that was amazing, then we saw a vanilla farm and pearl farm. Great vanilla, expensive but we bought a bunch anyways it was so good.

I doubt we would return to this hotel though just because being able to eat while on vacation is kind of important, and French portions of rice and vegetables, just don't cut it.
