“Very sacred place for Polynesians. Don't forget to take your shoes off!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2011

Went here with my father, who is Tahitian, and ended up meeting a man who was a descendant of one of the Chiefs of this marae. My father was able to talk with him in Tahitian and the man knew much of the history of this place and it's connection to Hawaii and Atearoa (New Zealand) mentioning that it is believed that the canoes that left for those 2 islands left from Taputapuatea. He mentioned that many Americans do not take there shoes off when stepping onto the stones of the marae (and unfortunately many Tahitians these days as well), but that we should as it is a sign of respect.
