Unlike Hawaii, in French Polynesia it's really difficult to find self-catering accomodations for 4 people, so Legends looked like the perfect place on Moorea. We booked online a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom premium villa for 6 nights, having somewhat high expectations.
Upon check-in we were upgraded to a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom villa (#10) which provided excellent views of the lagoon. The location was excellent, allowing us to watch both the sunrise and the sunset over the ocean. Unfortunately this was about the only thing nice about the villa.
After walking in, I noticed some odd things about the construction. The inside doors would not open and close quite right, as if the angles on the walls were not straight, requiring a lot of pushing and pulling to get them to work. The wood shutter blinds in the smallest bedroom would prevent the door from opening if they were left in the open position. The furniture is minimal, and the only dining table was the one in the kitchen, which was small and really uncomfortable. The living room had a lot of unused open space, where a larger dining table could have been placed.
The design of the villas is meant to let the fresh air breeze through the house, which means no insulation in the high ceiling, and only wood shutters in the windows (no glass). During late morning and the afternoon, the living room area and the smallest bedroom were too hot to be confortable. The only rooms that had A/C were the 2 bedrooms at the back of the house.
There was a persistent bad smell coming from the sewer of both bathrooms. We called the maintenance service, but the liquid they poured in the sewer did nothing to eliminate the odor.
During the second day we noticed large open spaces in the area where the roof meets the exterior walls. As I looked high up in vaulted ceiling, I noticed bird excrement on the beams, suggesting birds were inside the house at some point. In the evening, after we came from dinner, my son noticed fresh bird excrement on one of the couches in the living room. It turns out that two birds were inside the house, sitting on a beam in the ceiling. They most likely used the open space mentioned above to enter inside the house.
The same evening my wife got a real scare when she opened the kitchen garbage drawer, and saw what looked like a giant cockroach. This wasn't our first stay in the Tahitian islands, but this large critter was certainly a first. This house had plenty of other bugs too, getting in through all the cracks and openings in the house. Unfortunately we didn't see any geckos to eat them.
The resort advertises Internet connectivity. However I found this to be a bad joke. The resort provides WiFi connectivity throughout the resort, but the Internet link is provided by a third party company. You buy crappy connectivity by the hour, with costs as high as 400 CFP/hour (~5$/hour). It felt like accessing the Internet over a 33kbps line back in the '90s. I paid $50 for 11 hours of access, and ended up spending ~7 hours trying to download few 20MB files my daughter needed for a summer school course.
We used the washer and dryer machines in the villa. The dryer's exhaust was not hooked up to an outside vent, so the hot and humid air exhausted by the dryer process was getting inside the house.
Another cheap trick was the coffee and tea. Besides the ones you get when you check in, you need to buy them from the hotel. Not a huge issue, but come on, in most hotels these are complimentary.
We ended up checking out after the second night, and booking two rooms at the Intercontinental down the road. To top it off, during our stay at Intercontinental, one evening we went to dine at Legends' La Villa Des Sens. To our surprise, the restaurant was closed.
Overall the Legends stay was the worst experience we had during our two week vacation in French Polynesia.

Dear Ovidiu P, Ia Orana,

Thank you very much for reviewing Legends Resort. We are happy to read that you enjoyed being upgraded from a 2-bdr / 1 bathroom villa (1290 sq ft) to a 3-bdr / 2 bathrooms villa (1935 sq ft) given that you were 4 adults sharing and we thought that you would enjoy the extra space indeed. It is true that a all-wood construction with high humidity level under a tropical climate can result in having some unwanted pushing with doors at times, however most of our guests recognize the very nice design of the villas. It was also a choice from the architect to keep ample space in the living room free, allowing our guests to open wide the sliding doors and enjoy the stunning and unique panoramic view from the sofa. Dining tables are available indoor in the kitchen or outdoor under the gazebo.
We apologize about the inconvenience of having malodours in the bathrooms drains of your villa and are sorry to read that our biotechnological treatment, which always has immediate and great efficiency in treating and preventing of malodours, did not eliminate the odours, while the technician has confirmed there was no more smell. Internet connectivity in such a remote island in the middle of the South Pacific is somewhat difficult indeed, however our wish is to providing our guests with the option of connecting to emails or social medias while away from home. We understand that it was essential to you to download your daughter's summer school course and could have helped you doing so from our offices, should we have known. Lastly we would like to underline that La Villa des Sens, despite it being located at the foot of Legends Resort, is separate from the resort. Our onsite restaurant though, located on the poolside is open every night to in-house and outside guests, too.
Sunny regards from Moorea,
