Il Padrino, located near Cemaco, La Artistica and a few blocks from Sabana Park in Rohrmoser is a home run! There's a reason why most small restaurants nearby are closed or about ready to by 9pm and this place is hopping till sometimes after 10! We and others luck out to get a good meal (and not have to go to Market in the Escazu: Real Inter Cont.) for a good late dinner.
This family owned restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and we like the changes they've made to the menu (specifically changing the kitchy names of dishes) over their 6 years or so.
We love eating at this small, cozy Italian restaurant despite the often loud and busy street right outside. We eat here pretty frequently because we enjoy the well prepared dishes, really warm, friendly and professional waiter and late night opening. I forget his name of the male server but in my opinion, he's makes this restaurant standout.
I especially enjoy the Caprese salad at this restaurant. I've tried caprese salads at many restaurants in Costa Rica and usually the tomatoes have no flavor and the mozz cheese is sliced very thin. Well, not at Il Padrino. They actually have large mozz slices and tomatoes that are red and taste like something - rare to find. Only $6
The food is well priced for it's generous and filling portions. Nice fresh pasta dishes prepared a variety of styles. Festive red cloth napkins :)
Dessert: delicious ice cream cake with pistachios -- very refreshing after an Italian meal.
would recommend this small place.
