In the middle of the city, the University of Costa Rica stands as a biological and natural reserve of non-polluted air. The campus is filled with gardens and trails leading to its faculties and buildings.
The people are usually friendly, and you should visit at least once the plaza we call "El pretil", which is the core center of social interactions in the university. It is located between the Faculty of General Studies, the Carlos Monge library, and the Faculty of Engineering, at the southern part of the campus.
To have the full experience, don't overlook going for a coffee at one of the "sodas" (cafeterias), have some greasy "patacones", and talk about trivial topics with the locals, which are usually very friendly and outgoing.
