4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

Fabulous countryside and ruins in a nice park area with good facilities. Would be nice place for a picnic or to bring kids.

“Not worth the drive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

We rented a car and drove there, some roads along the way were not well paved or maintained and the car rental GPS took us through villages and blocked paths on the way through the hilly, convolutional road that leads there. There were several restaurant signs along the way but we did not have lunch or stayed over there. Once you arrive, it felt like we were at the wrong place so empty and not touristy it was, a few parking spots on an empty street and a woman asking for change to look after the car, inside the park there were several stray dogs and a security guard near what seemed to be a restroom. The park is very small, the ruins are beautiful alright, but it was not worth the almost 2 hours’ drive from San Jose. When we were leaving another small group of tourists arrived.

“Out of the way, but worth the trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

This is an out of the way attraction, but very much worth the trip. The ruins of the old church are located in the valley of the Orosi River and can be seen from the Mirador (lookout, scenic view) on the road from Paraíso/Cartago. The Mirador also has picnic tables, grills, benches, etc.

The ruins themselves would be a little more interesting if the history information were not so damaged. I recommend printing out the history before you go. The park surrounding hte ruins is very well cared for and has a playground, picnic tables, etc. It is a great place for a family/group gathering. Parking is directly in front and ample. There is no admission charge.

“Interesting, well kept park”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

It is nice to see a part of history preserved. Take mosquito spray! It is a nice drive from San Jose and there are other things in the area to see.

“Good picnic spot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

We visited the ruins as part of our day trip from Orosi to Irazu (part of a loop drive). There is no admission charge. Lots of families are here for the weekend. There are many trees in the park and kids are swimming in the stream at the edge of the park. It is definitely a great spot for picnic. You can barely read the plaque that describes the ruin. There isn't much to see here at this place, but the loop drive is interesting.
