Stayed here for one night and we were pleased.

The hotel is not in the city centre, but, a short cab ride away. It is not fancy, but it's nice. Modern and very clean, with everything you could possibly need. There are a couple of restaurants not too far away (Denny's being one of them). But again, you are not far from the centre and can easily get there.

The gentleman at the front desk was really nice, too. Helpful and friendly.

I recommend this hotel very much, especially if you are at the tail-end of your trip to Costa Rica and are looking for a place to relax before flying out.

Very clean, spacious, well appointed rooms, huge bathroom, and small kitchenette should you want to keep something cold or warm something up – very comfortable! Also offered excellent service – all staff were sincerely friendly, and couldn’t be more helpful.

The breakfast room is on the top floor (4th), and offers coffee, juice, a small plate of papaya and pineapple, toast, and cold cereal. For a very small price, you can order hot items such as eggs ($1.50 each), with sausage for a $3, or pancakes for $2.50. There’s also a terrace outside the breakfast room to catch some sun and view the mountains.

The hotel is very secure, and a short walk takes you to a few restaurants, small grocery store, pharmacy, gift shops, and casino. It's a short drive to airport, central San Jose, or onto the Interamericana highway if you’re exploring the country.

The only con is the noise level from the highway, so if you’re sound sensitive, request a room facing the back.

We stayed at the Plaza Real for 2 nights of our trip in Costa Rica. The hotel staff was more than accommodating and helpful. We were trying to plan a trip to Tortuguero (remote island in Costa Rica) and they went above and beyond, helping us make calls to other hotels and assisting us in researching on the internet. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast could have been a little more plentiful but we had busy days planned so there wasn't a lot of time to sit around and enjoy a big breakfast anyway. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Costa Rica.

This is a great small hotel with many different types of room options for all travelers--traditional rooms, suites, large apartments. Everything in the hotel is amazingly clean and the entire staff works extremely hard to help out its guests in any way possible. Wonderful staff! It's a bit of a distance from the downtown area, and many people like that, especially business travelers. If you like to be in the bustle of San Jose, however, you may want to stay right in the heart of the city instead. It really depends what you're looking for and your reason for traveling. This hotel has free, reliable WI-FI, free continental breakfast, and free parking. The only downside was that there were no restaurants or eateries within a block or two of the hotel, but if you don't mind a bit of a walk you can get to a few further away. But food can always be delivered to your room from a multitude of restaurants in the area.
