Primarily for younger travelers. My room was pretty shabby but clean at-least., Overall the place was pretty nice. Some of the staff at the desk were very courteous and helpful. The bar area and pool were nice.

Room Tip: upstairs. Mine was in the basement (

They have great facilities. But don't utilise them, never saw cinema room being used, no big parties, kind of gutted, as saw photo's and it looked mad!
Food was expensive, but good and tasty. Got bitten to death in rooms, but did everywhere, noisy if trying to go to sleep early. Big man behind bar upstairs was pervy or grumpy, but all other staff were lovely!

Room Tip: Dont share!

The Good: The hostel has a really cool set up. The art on the walls gives it a pretty cool vibe and the roof top terrace is really cool to have a beer on. I met some cool people there as well, definitely a solid backpacker base. It had really tight knit security too.

The Bad: The staff had a really bad attitude during my stay. They were never openly rude but most everyone I talked to agreed that they seemed a bit pissy. I only stayed for one night so there's a chance I caught them on a bad day, however when you check into a hostel like this, one should feel welcome, not like an intruder. Lack of lockers in room was also unacceptable.

Overall: worth checking out if you're in San Jose and looking for an interesting "party" hostel, however I hope your experience with the staff is better than mine.

As a backpacker working through Costa Rica I needed to burn a night in San Jose. I found the atmosphere that everyone seems to be complaining about extremely conducive to meeting other travelers, which is particularly nice since San Jose is the transportation hub of the country and meeting the right person(s) can lead to a good travel companion and/or spontaneous adventure to just about anywhere. The facility also feels comfortably secure with a doorman working the front gate and a locked room for luggage/valuables. The food and drink was expensive, but the restaurant/bar had an upscale trendy appearance with a cool view that helped justify the higher prices. Great local lunch served right next door.

Look everyone.. it's a hostel. And it's a party hostel. It's going to be loud and if you really want to sleep bring ear plugs. It has a nice restaurant and common area.. and a pretty great burger if you're looking for a break from rice and beans!
The hostel is clean.. especially the shared bathrooms which is really great.

Personally, I would recommend spending as little time as possible in San Jose. Fly into the airport (which is in Alajuela) and get out to Fortuna or Monteverde or Manuel Antonio!

I stayed here as part of world challenge. The facilities were good with lots of showers and a great bar which did our large party good deals on food. It is a good stop gap for travelling to other parts of Costa Rica
