“Perfect Arrival and Departure Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013

My husband and I, with our two teenagers, stayed at Adventure Inn last week twice - one night upon arrival from the airport and again the night before our departure. We found this to be the perfect place to become familiar with Costa Rica in a comfortable setting before we ventured out.

We stayed in rooms 35 and 28. Both were large and clean, with coffee makers. Room 35 had a mini fridge and microwave too, while room 28 included an addition bed (twin). Both rooms overlooked the pool. Room 35 required a walk up a couple short flights of stairs but we received help with our luggage. Room 28 was on the ground level. Beds were comfortable and toiletries were provided. A/C worked well, though we enjoyed having the windows open to feel the breeze. Wifi was a little iffy in room 35 but in 28 it was fine (and it was great by the pool). We were quite happy to be able to have free Wifi. There was a flat screen TV but we used it very little.

We really appreciated the extra amenities that were included in our rate/reservation. The hotel arranged for airport pickup, and even though our flight was delayed, there was a friendly face with my name on his sign and he was happy to guide us to our Interbus van. The hotel offers free international calls, which I've never seen anywhere before. We had dinner at the hotel's Moon Glow restaurant and had a chance to try some local food. We loved the included breakfast the next morning, with made-to-order dishes and exotic local fruits.

The small pool was a nice place to hang out and relax. On our last morning, check out wasn't until noon and this is great if you have late afternoon flights. From the hotel, you can walk to a gourmet fresh market/grocery store and also a large souvenir shop that had reasonable prices (and a little bit of everything you could imagine!). Check out was smooth, with a 10% discount for paying cash in US dollars. The hotel called a taxi for our return trip to the airport. We really felt like all the little details were taken care of for us, with no hassle on those hectic first and last travel days. Staff was courteous and other visitors seemed to be having a good time in a warm atmosphere.

The hotel is not a luxury hotel and I'm sure it's an older property, but it was delightfully decorated and a bit quirky, which our family loves to experience. My rating is based on the overall experience and value, with this caveat in mind. We would definitely stay there again! Pura Vida.

We stayed here on a quick trip to San Jose when we needed to visit the Embassy. The directions that were provided to the hotel were excellent. The room was adequate although dark & the WiFi did not work in our room #27. We had dinner in the restaurant which was good & reasonable. There are also other restaurants, bars, & a market within a very short drive or long safe walk. The breakfast was substantial. Rooms a little noisy. We needed driving directions & they were unable to provide which is one of the reasons I only gave them 3 stars. They did get us a driver & that worked well. Manfred at the front desk is a real asset.

I came here after I landed in airport and I have found everything to get the rest after jetlag. Close to the AirPort, clean room, swimming pool and yakuzi. For upcoming morning you can looking forward to have nice local měla breakfast.

Like many others we stayed here only one night after we landed in San Jose. But it is a very nice place that one could easily stay in for a few nights. Great location, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast and comfortable rooms. Sadly, did not get a chance to use the pool area but it is pretty.

Nice and friendly hotel ten minutes drive from the airport. Room very clean, spacious and comfortable.
Very good breakfast with great choice of fresh fruit , fruit suites, eggs any style.
Nice small pool.
Surely a good choice for a night after a long flight or before a morning flight.

We have had the pleasure of staying several times at Adventure Inn. The extras like free shuttle to and from the airport and the lovely breakfast which are included in the rate really make the stay perfect. We also love the Costa Rican feel of the place over places like Marriott and other US chains, we can stay there any time. The staff at Adventure Inn are always very pleasant and extremely helpful. A very well run place. The kids love the pool, no matter what the weather....and it's great to have a place for them to blow off a little travel steam. The food at the restaurant was particularly good and plentiful this time too. Great ceviche and chicken club. Thanks again for a great stay!

We stayed at the Adventure Inn for 3 nights. It was a great stay overall. The breakfast was delicious and the room was great (cable tv is always a perk when you don't usually have it) and it was in a nice area. The only issue was the location. It was too far from anything and the taxis were expensive. But I should have done more research myself with regards to the location.

Thank you for the review, and your kind comments about your stay. Regarding our location, if you stay at a hotel in central San Jose, you are looking at $30 each way by taxi from the airport, whereas our transfers are free. We have found that with the majority of our guests, after a few hours in San Jose shopping or visiting a museum, they appreciate returning to the safer, cleaner, quieter, less congested neighborhood of the Adventure Inn. And without the burden of your suitcases, a quick bus ride (they come along every couple of minutes) into central San Jose is just a dollar. Besides, most people agree that San Jose, unlike other world capitals, has little to offer. Other than the ornate Teatro Nacional, the architecture is just plain utilitarian and often unkempt, the crowded streets are dirty, people sleeping on the sidewalks, discarded garbage, every building has bars on the windows and high walls and gates around it, the red light zones are particularly dangerous, it's just not a great tourist attraction. Adventure Inn is in a classy neighbourhood around Costa Rica's oldest and most established golf course, offering pleasant tranquil walks to the a nearby upscale Fresh Market with an ATM and international restaurants above it, a couple of casinos, a bowling alley, a wonderful souvenir store, more restaurants including a new Hard Rock Cafe, and about a fifteen minute walk to the large Mall Cariari with its stores and Cineplex. So perhaps if this guest had fully researched our location beforehand, he would have chosen us anyway!
