Before booking here, we read a review on Tripadvisor that said this was more of a bed & breakfast than hotel ( which we weren't opposed to - we love b&b's, too ) and we would have to agree with them. For those who may not not want to stay at a b & b though - the title of "hotel" would definitely come as a surprise to them. The foyer has been turned into a hall and small reception area. There is a large general room which would have been the original sitting area ( very comfortable ) and it has a wide view of the lovely mountains. The patio is now the breakfast area. We could also hear other visitors coming and going just as one does at a B & B. We needed room for 3 so we were given a room between reception and the kitchen and were warned ahead of time that it did not have a balcony. We were okay with that but would have liked to know that it looked onto the driveway ( 1st floor ) as we would have opted to go elsewhere for our one night in the San Jose area ( probably Alta or Grano de Oro ) . The room was small but tidy with a large, clean bathroom. The fellow at the front desk was extremely helpful, kind and personable. It was further from the int'l airport than we anticipated and it took about 40 minutes to drive there w/ taxi ( $20 USD ) Would to have liked to know this as well before booking and not sure why other reviews didn't point this out . It has wireless capability & the breakfast was excellent. Clientele was mostly American retirees and it is owned by Americans. Cost was around $135 w/ tax.
Our stay at the inn was nothing short of incredible. The staff (especially Alcides and Jose) were very helpful, and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was both comfortable and enjoyable.
As far as the actual inn, it was quite beautiful. The gardens were lush and properly cared for. The rooms were large and air-conditioned with cable (American) tv. The bathroom was also very nice and had double sinks (at least in our room) which was very convenient since I was traveling with 3 other ladies.
The breakfast they served turned out to be our favorite for the duration of our stay in Costa Rica. We were also lucky enough to be seated in the dining room with a breathtaking view of San Jose (other guests were seated in the main dining room with the bar).
Posada el Quijote is situated on a hill and overlooks the San Jose valley. It is about 15-20 minutes to the downtown area. The international airport is about 20-25 minutes, and the smaller airport (for transfers to Arenal, Tamarindo, etc. via Sansa and Nature Air) is about 10 minutes away. It really is a great location and we do look forward to staying there again.
I have stayed a lot of places in the world but the service here is just the "best". We stayed here our first and last nights in Costa Rica. They were so helpful in getting us to and from the Airport and in getting a rental car for our two weeks and just about anything else that I asked. Abolutely first class!!! The rooms are really nice and the place is very relaxing!! It is really nicely done and very clean. Oh and a wonderful breakfast - really tasty!!! One of the "best" values I have ever had anywhere. Would highly recommend!!!!!!!!!!!
We just overnighted before our flight out of San Jose. We had a deluxe room (#24). It was spacious, opened outside and had a large bathroom with bath and shower.
The hotel itself is really a B&B but a wonderful one with spacious comfortable common rooms. And of course the view, what a view over the lovely gardens and the city of San Jose (much better at a distance).
Warm and friendly people at check in.
We had to leave too early for breakfast so cannot comment but were shown how to leave early.
It is in Escazu which is an upscale suburb of San Jose. However, as many have noted about CR, lack of signage is a problem and if you take a wrong turn, as we did at night, finding your bearings again can take awhile.
All in all, however, we look forward to returning.
