“Gold Museum is a Gem”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

Although the currency museum and other parts of the museum (included in your admission fee) didn't particularly stand out, the Gold Museum was surprisingly well done. The museum in underground, so you have to enter from the Gold Museum from the first floor down (the middle floor) to go in chronological order of history. The displays are in both English and Spanish. What was impressive was the artifacts on display and the many gold figurines from Costa Rican history. I would suggest allowing for an hour to go through all the parts of the museum. You can take pictures (which I love) throughout your experience. Make this a stop on your visit to San Jose. It's right around the block from the National Theater and within minutes of many food options.

“Worth the visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2014

We didn't find much to do in downtown San Jose, but I would recommend two hours to see this museum. It contains an extensive collection of gold work and other artifacts from Central America before the arrival of the Spanish. The building itself is quite unattractive but don't let that stop you from seeing the exhibit.

“Fun for an hour”

The kids had a few activities in the museum that kept them occupied. It was nice that there were exhibits where they were allows to touch and not only look.

“well done and interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2014

spend the time to read and watch the displays - interesting! The gold jewellery is nice but actually the exhibits on settlement and life in the pre-Columbian days was more interesting. It is a must see.
