Although the currency museum and other parts of the museum (included in your admission fee) didn't particularly stand out, the Gold Museum was surprisingly well done. The museum in underground, so you have to enter from the Gold Museum from the first floor down (the middle floor) to go in chronological order of history. The displays are in both English and Spanish. What was impressive was the artifacts on display and the many gold figurines from Costa Rican history. I would suggest allowing for an hour to go through all the parts of the museum. You can take pictures (which I love) throughout your experience. Make this a stop on your visit to San Jose. It's right around the block from the National Theater and within minutes of many food options.
