“Great little property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2014

Stayed for a week on business. You can't beat the rate, especially with a nice breakfast included. The hotel is very modern, and the rooms are lovely. Very comfortable beds, and quiet for San Jose. There is always a guard at the front door, and the staff is very friendly. Small pool, and no gym is really the only drawback. The restaurant, Jurgen's, is simply outstanding.

I stayed two nights during a business trip in San José, the room was confortable, the personel was very friendly and helped me with different requests.

The breakfast was very completed, also the restaurant connected with the hotel was very good.

additionally, the rain forest landscape of the hotel make it really nice.

I recommend for business and holidays.

My experience at the Boutique Jade was truly up-close and personal. Its location proved to be quite close indeed for my purposes -- just a five-minute walk to the Costa Rican Language Academy, where my group was attending Spanish classes -- and not far from an indoor shopping mall and many other shops. The Boutique Jade is situated on the east side of San José a bit far from the center of town, but it’s in a good neighborhood that is relatively safe. As for the personal touch, the hotel is small with only 29 rooms, which makes for an intimate experience and pleasant interactions with the helpful, friendly staff.

The lobby offers comfortable seating and is attractively decorated, including an unobtrusive indoor fish & turtle pond off to the side of the front desk. Close to the lobby and adjoining the restaurant area is a nicely laid-out inner courtyard complete with an outdoor pool.

My room was large and inviting with ample drawer space, a flat-screen TV offering abundant Spanish and English language channels, good lighting in most parts of the room, two luggage stands, two phones, free wi-fi, and an alarm clock -- complete with a docking station for older model iPhone/iPad/iPods to wake you to music or buzzer. Furnishings included a comfortable bed, small safe, desk and desk chair, easy chair, and fridge. Among the bathroom amenities were soap, shampoo, and lotion. The bathroom and sleeping area were kept very clean by the excellent maid service, and the housekeeping staff even washed and replaced my shower curtain one day without any request, presumably as part of routine maintenance.

Good as it was, everything was not perfect. Among the negatives, I found the breakfast buffet to be only so-so, offering very few appetizing hot choices. At night, there was insufficient outdoor lighting around the restaurant entrance in the pool area, and we had to take care not to trip on the entrance stairs in the dark. My room was occasionally penetrated by considerable noise from both the courtyard and the corridor. The in-room safe was too tiny even to insert an iPad and was very difficult to initialize and operate. I needed help from the staff to set it up, but others in our group never got their safes to work, even with staff assistance. As for the wi-fi, the results for members of our group were spotty and were apparently dependent in part upon the room’s location. In my room, the signal varied from too weak to moderately strong at different times of day. The bathroom was fine and had few problems, although the amenities did not include a washcloth or shower cap. And sometimes the hottest possible “hot” water was no better than lukewarm, although it was OK most of the time and usually came up fairly quickly.

That said, in my opinion the Boutique Hotel Jade’s many major positives far outweighed the few minor negatives. I would be quite happy to stay there again on my next visit to San José.

We made our way down to San Jose for a week of business meetings and what not and our host recommended this hotel. What a fine recommendation it was. Great service from a friendly staff. The service from the front desk to the chamber maid to laundry and the breakfast crew was impeccable. The breakfast buffet could have been a little more complete but nonetheless it was good and fresh each day. The pool in the courtyard was very nice- wish I had time for a swim but it was nice enough when we sat poolside for an after work beverage or an early morning coffee.

I was in San Jose for a week long meeting. My hosts put me up here. It was in a location fairly convenient ot the University of Costa Rica. The place was spotless and quite secure (guard at the front door after dark), but I have to admit at feeling no threat in the area. It was well apoint Spanish colonial style with some modest internal fountains. Break fast is in one of the rooms around the pool. All in all, a comfortable hotel experience.

This hotel is in the San Pedro district of San Jose, east of the city center. I picked it because of its proximity to the Costa Rican Language Academy (CRLA). It turned out to be a good choice also for other reasons. The receptionists are service-minded and efficient, and the cleaning staff are diligent. A breakfast buffet was included in the reasonable room price, and featured fresh fruit and yoghurt, among other things. The hotel has a small inner courtyard where you can relax by the mini-pool. The reading light at the desk was excellent which facilitated my work.

There were minor issues about the room safe not closing, and the room key sometimes not working, but they were resolved quickly on each occurrence. There is no fitness center, but you can pay a weekly fee and join a nearby gym in the Mall San Pedro.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an entrance away from the street, to avoid the early morning noise.

Stayed here as part of group. The language school was very close, which made this hotel very convenient. There is mall close by, but all the food in the mall seems to be American fast food. Takes a bit more work to find out where you can eat. Grocery store within walking distance. There is restaurant at the hotel, but it is only open for dinner. Does not specialize in local food. No bar, but mini-bar in refrigerator. Wasn't a beer in mine, but you can ask for one to be put in the mini bar. The rooms were clean. Hotel needs some maintenance, but I would stay again if I were going to the language school (CRLA).
