“Great Hotel. Don't understand all the negative reviews!”

We were already booked into this hotel when I read the online reviews, the large percentage of which were really negative. I was tempted to change our plans, but stuck with them anyway. And I'm really glad we did. This is a beautiful (well, beautiful for San Jose) hotel, with excellent service, great food and really reasonable prices. Staff was very friendly, although not always knowledgeable (the concierge had no idea there were ATV tours until we showed him the brochure!) There is a great little bar (open til 5am) with entertainment, 3 nice pools (could use a little more maintenance), a small casino and 3 great restaurants. It is in the industrial section of San Jose, but who cares. There is a footbridge to the shopping mall across the street. Security is very evident, especially in the lobby, but they were polite and friendly. Overall, we loved it and would recommend it for a nice getaway.

“Terrible service and attitude at this hotel”

Ramada Plaza Herradura San Jose

Feb 15, 2008

from the time we arrived to try and check in and they couldn't find our rooms, to the horrible food and worse service in the Med restaraunt, to the security guards who made you feel like a crimnal in your own hotel this was a terrible place to stay.
We were attending as part of a conference and had packages shipped to the hotel attn to the name of the sales person in charge of the show. Upon arrival (Sat night) nobody could tell us where our materials were to be able to hand out at the show that started on Sunday. Beginning Monday morning we began searching for the sales person at the hotel who was on our manifest to help us locate our packages. I was assured the packages would arrive by Monday afternoon. They of course never arrived and I never was notified by the sales person as to why. I went to the sales office at 9am the next day (Tues, the last day of the show) and hunted the person down. They told me they had turned the packages down when DHL had called to have them delivered the week before with no explanation as to why. I was then told I would have to wait 24 hours to have them delivered. Of course by then the conference was over and all of our collateral materials were still sitting in customs.
I would never recommend anyone staying in this hotel and have a very bad taste of Costa Rica because of the way they treated us as guests and they manner in which they conduct business.

We respectfully find this review unfair to our Hotel. It is based on a very bad service experience from another company (a courier company not completing the delivery of an important package on time). This hotel rents its convention space to third parties; the guest was here to attend a convention that the Hotel did not organize; in that regard, the sales person referred to cannot be an employee of the Hotel; more likely, an employee of the convention organizer.
I am concerned about the comment on our Mediterranean restaurant, "Tirrenia". We have been getting very high remarks from guests and local customers about the food and service of this new addition to our services. I already checked all the surveys of the month and they are consistent. Sometimes, a dissatisfaction in a particular area may affect the whole rest of the experience in a hotel; in this case I respectfully think the dissatisfaction did not come from us.
We continue to strive for excellence everyday; I am sorry not to have been given the opportunity to personally talk to this guest and help if possible.

“Top Notch Stay at Ramada Plaza Herradura”

Ramada Plaza Herradura San Jose

I want to share our absolutely perfect stay at this fabulously run hotel. Everything could not have been better. We truly felt as though we were in paradise. Waking up in the morning to the birds singing at our windows and looking out at the beautiful surrounding mountains. Next big decison was which pool to jump in for our morning swim..right outside our door. The views are as spectacular as the hotel. The ambience..the gardens all around the hotel. Wow!! The rooms are spacious, the bathroom amenities are gorgeous. A shuttle bus picked us up at the airport and we were greeted by a great front desk staff, especially hats off to Marco..he took us under wing, making phone calls for us, guiding us in information, everything to make our stay easier with the language barrier in Costa Rica. What a delightful young man (very well trained as the entire front desk employees). We met the general manager the frist day there and he was so informative and so caring and concerned that our stay was to perfection. He is delightful, be sure and ask to visit with him (Mr. Segura) . He can be seen all around the hotel. We had breakfasts in the Tropicala restaurant (delicious with lots of choices). We had a lovely dinner in the mediterranean restaurante..fabulous food, we had soups that were tasty tasty and a greek salad to die for. The lamb chops were the best we have ever had and believe me we are lamb chop lovers and have tried them in many places. These were #1. A special thanks to Mario in this restaurant, service superb. Be sure and ask for him when you go there. The Japanense restaurant was simply special also. We visited the onsite casino...did not win tho, my only disappointment. The bar has a grand piano, how totallyy relaxing as we sipped our cocktails and listened to the pianist play. To top off our stay, we visited the onsite spa for one of the most relaxing and rejuevenating massages ever and at such a reasonable price. I wished I had used the opportunity to have more than one of these but it was time to go home. How sad!! The gift shop is in the beautifully decorated lobby and had all the things I needed for homecoming gifts for my family and neighbors. We checked out and promised to return.

As frequent business and leisure travelers, my wife and I have had the opportunity to visit many different properties both within and outside our United States. I write this review because we especially enjoyed our week at the beautiful Ramada Plaza Herradura while I attended an International Symposium at the Ramada Conference Center. The conference center was large, well equipped, and easily accommodated the large number of attendees and its many parallel sessions. It provided ample space for poster sessions as well. And while I attended the conference, my wife enjoyed sitting by the pool and her visits to the spa. Our room was bright, roomy, and had a beautiful view of the multi-level swimming pool and attractive landscape. The front desk staff was courteous and helpful, the restaurant buffet foods were displayed tastefully, and the wait staff always amazed us by remembering our likes and dislikes-even after our first visit to the restaurant. It’s always difficult to visit, and to attempt to drive in an unfamiliar place- especially when you don’t speak the language of the country. But when we decided to venture out of the hotel to do some sight-seeing on our own, we met the hotel General Manager in the lobby by chance, and he took a personal interest in us. When we explained our driving anxiety, he drove with us to explain the difficult traffic pattern in the vicinity of the Ramada. He always made himself available to answer our questions, suggested sight-seeing excursions, and provided help whenever we needed it. And when my wife developed a medical problem, he arranged for a doctor to visit her at the hotel nearly immediately and arranged for the delivery of an antibiotic to the hotel even though her problem occurred during the evening. Thankfully his personal and rapid response resolved her problem quickly, and she was able to enjoy the remainder of our stay.

We were on our Honeymoon and we had to stay there for 1 night due to being overbooked at our hotel Merlia.(Great Hotel)next door.
It's started bad from the time we got there. It's took us over 15 minutes to check in,because they couldn't find us in the computer.
A Wedding was going on that night and we went out to dinner because of the loud noise. We we arrived back at 9:37pm, there so many intoxicated people roaming around we almost ran to our room.
They put us on the same floor as the party and all we could hear loud music throught out the night. After 4 calls to the front desk, they promised they would have them turn the music down and promise it will end at midnight. I had to get dress and go to the front desk in person at 1:32am. the young man try to hid from me because I was upset. All I wanted was to speak to the Manager, because each time I called they promise that a Manager would call back. I made him call the manager in front of me and the manager promised that he would refund our $142.00 and move us away from the party.
After returning home (Sweet America) we have yet seen a refund.
P.S.

We could understand this guest's discomfort. The wedding being discussed became loud. We proceeded to upgrade the guest to a suite away from the wedding, and promised a refund if applicable.

This guest reserved our hotel through a website reservation system that has credit with us (they send the money for reservations a few days after they actually happen). We contacted this company and told them that instead of sending us the net amount of the reservation, to please refund the guest. We never collected any funds for this reservation, and have no control over the refund that the internet company has to do now.

There is new management since 7 months ago, and our goal is to improve service in every aspect. When a situation arises, we do our best to satisfy the immediate need, like we did in this case, but the administrative process that followed is now out of our control. We will continue to follow up with the Internet company that the guest used so that he can get a refund. If not, we will contact the guest and offer a free 3 night stay in one of our suites for the future.
