First, the POSITIVES: Super location, reasonable price, very helpful staff, very quiet at night in interior/garden rooms. Our room was well equipped with desk, lamps on both sides of the queen bed, nice draperies, closet and shelf space for clothes. Space for parking, fast WIFI/internet. The restaurant El Cyrano offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, and has quite decent food, though not much choice for breakfast. (They might consider a buffet with cereals, granola and yoghurt as do other similarly priced B&Bs in San Jose). NEGATIVES: The wonderful staff must be under orders to save money in every possible way. In spite of the maid's best efforts to fold them under with the hope they wouldn't be seen, (I like my sheets up around my neck, not my waist), so in unfolding I found the hems shockingly frayed on the edges. Likewise, shabbiness is invading this lovely place. A lot of the passageway walls and doors to hotel rooms need a professional cleaning and paint job. Don't look too carefully at details--shoddy workmanship from the last paint job left spatters on baseboards and moldings. And for goodness sakes, in a country with so much wonderful fruit, Hotel Le Bergerac ought to provide a better (not sour) fruit juice and a marmalade not watered down to a runny tastelessness. REALLY NOW! Saving money by watering down your jams is going a little too far!! Also, don't make guests have to ask for more soap and toilet paper. There should be two soaps, so two people don't have to carry one little disk from the sink to the shower and back again. OK, I spent more time on negatives, but in general, I still really like this place and hope the next time I come back the owners will have reinvested in some of the details that make a stay perfect.
