If your a history buff this stop is a must see for San Jose. The neighborhood isn't elegant as the poverty of downtown as seeped into this area(prostitution, juvinille theft). Once daylight, this hotel was magnificiant as the fountains in the lobbies were turned on and the typical breakfast and freindly staff emerged. It's a short walk from the downtown market.

Standard room, hard bed.

I really liked the character of the common areas at this hotel and it is very near the main downtown area for tourists so that is nice. I feel like for the same price we could have had a nice hotel room though. The room was clean but not updated and after looking at expedia I think we could have got a better deal somewhere else with a nicer room.

2 Nights was booked by a travel agency on the way in and out of Costa Rica.
1St night: room with garden view. Nice until night where the spot light of the garden never shut down and noise from the street behind the garden just make sleep impossible.
2Nd night. Tried a room inside the main building. It was smelling inside like wet dirty carpet all over the room plus a bed with iron type of matelas making huge noise at every moment.
Finely, the location of the hotel is just next to the place where hookers and travesty pick up clients. Not a very nice or safe neighbours hood according to the front desk of the hotel.

I will never advise anyone to sleep in this hotel.

There wasn't much we liked about this hotel. We arrived early evening on a Sunday looking for dinner locations. The man at the desk was less than interested in helping us. The sheets in the room felt like those cheap, overwashed linens that you find in a lesser hotel than we thought this one to be. Breakfast was pretty good and in a nice setting. Location is okay....but there are better. Not horrible but probably wouldn't stay here again.
