“Great Host and Great Breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2012

Host was very helpful and the breakfast was to die for. Highly recommend! Out door marker was just a 5 min walk away. There is also a local market right around the corner of the B&B.

We stayed two nights at two different times - it's a beautiful place, lovely gardens, clean rooms, and an AMAZING breakfast in the garden. Highly recommend it if you are staying in San Jose!

Room Tip: Room 21 is awesome, has a little patio outside it!

Beautiful old renovated house with wooden floors and walls. We stayed here for two nights on our way down to Ecuador. The room (shared bathroom) was on the small side, but comfortable enough. The only downside was that because it's all wooden, you can hear pretty much everything. Luckily it wasn't too busy. The breakfast in the morning was great with lots of fresh fruit, homemade breads, and omelets. Also walking distance from the downtown and good restaurants.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the road

We stayed here on our way out of Costa Rica, so just 1 night. it was a great place to rest and was actually within walking distance of several city attractions so we were able to do a little bit of exploring in the brief time we were there! I think of San Jose as more of a gateway to the nicer more natural attractions in other parts of Costa Rica, but as a place to crash before or after the airport this one is not bad. Beds were fine, the bathroom was a bit cramped but had a nice big shower. They have nice gardens you can hang out in, though they just can't compare after spending 7 days in the rainforest. The staff were very helpful, they helped us find an atm and directions to around San Jose and arranged our very early cab service to the airport the next morning. There is a safe in the room, and a fellow traveler encouraged us to make sure we used it - great advice in general when you are traveling!

+ awesome breakfast buffet
+ safeboxes, phones available
+ location is quiet, but still within walking distance of downtown San Jose
+ atmospheric building, great breakfast terrace
+ clean rooms
+ staff's english is not great, but ok
+ free internet computers

- why would you want to stay in San Jose anway? There's no reason for that, the interesting parts of Costa Rica are nature and beaches, not cities.
- thin walls, so late arrivals / early departures will definitely wake you up

Stayed at the Aranjuez at the beginning and end of our Costa Rica trip. Our rooms were very nice both times. And the breakfast was unbelievable. I read all the great reviews, but was still surprised by the amazing assortment of fabulous foods. Enjoyed the neighborhood- residential/medical with several restaurants nearby. There was a local dance party right around the corner that happens every Friday night- check in out.

As everyone says - breakfast is great! and in a lovely setting. Staff very helpful booking tours, recommending restaurants, etc.. Our room was extremely small and noisy but for the price in a large city it was to be expected. Nice walk to downtown. Would definitely go back.
