“One of the very few reasons to go downtown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

It'll take you back to a different era. It's got charm that you rarely see other then old Europe. You can eat lunch. Don't miss this even if just to take a peek.

Across the street at the huge ancient Gran Hotel CR, you can have a snack or coffee in their open to the air retaurant and people watch over a great busy area. Very popular place. Crummy hotel, but a landmark.

“FABULOUS!!!!! The only reason to see San Jose”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Went to see the Teatro Nacional with the hope of booking tickets for that evening's performance - unfortunately fully sold out and so booked the tour instead. Our guide Jeff was very well informed and told great tales as we toured the beautiful building. Made our day by giving us 2 tickets for that night's performance as he could not attend. At which we met and had our photo taken with the President!!! Great day - oh and the cafe for coffee and cake cannot be beaten either.

Fantastic building that takes you back to another era. Worth the price of admission. The church nearby is also interesting.

“Visit to Teatro Nacional”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

Very beautiful theater and worth a visit if you love architecture, art, theater/opera. We were not in town long enough to see a performance, but there was an opera singer practicing upstairs during our visit and the underscoring of her singing was a lovely compliment to the beautiful stage, seating, decor, and staircases.

“If in San Jose During Season [Aug - Dec] DO NOT MISS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

An incredible little jewel in the center of San Jose, a historic landmark. Incredible acoustics and the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Costa Rica is amazing. Not to be missed. Take a tour of this theatre, it is worth it and don't miss attending a concert if you are visiting during their season.
