“Quaint little hotel in San Jose”

We stayed for 1 night at this hotel. We had arrived early in the morning from our redeye from California. After our morning tour, we headed back to the hotel, though our rooms were not ready. After a while in their small lobby, they upgraded us with rooms that were ready. The rooms were very nice, staff was terrific, and the restaurant was very good. WIFI was available in our rooms. If in San Jose again, we will return.

Here's a hotel which although pricey has an excellent restaurant and old style bedrooms. Wonderful breakfasts taken overlooking courtyard, and quality dinners. A most enjoyable four night stay. Service was very good. No problems with Wifi and plenty of cupboard space in the room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back.

It is not the least expensive hotel, but it is clean. You can drink the water from the faucet (it is triple filtered and these use reverse osmosis!). Restaurant is excellent, the place itself is just beautiful and even if it is a bit of a splurge, it is well worth it.

Room Tip: Easy to arrange for transportation to and from airport, or to coordinate with Inter-bus service to a...

We stayed here for one night in the Vista De Oro Suite. The room still seemed to have most of the charming features of the original master bedroom that was once a part of an old mansion, which we loved. We enjoyed the views from this room as it overlooked the city as well as 3 volcanoes in the distance. The bed was comfortable and the room was large. The bathroom was a little small, but it suited our needs as we were only there for one night. The jacuzzi tub was large and had views of the city too.

As we were checking into the hotel, they gave my husband and I each a champagne glass of fruit juice which was a nice touch. The people at the front desk were very welcoming and helpful. The bell hop took our luggage to our room and told us a little history of the hotel which we enjoyed. I think because we booked this hotel through a deal with trip adviser, we received a gift from the hotel, which was a nice touch - bag of coffee, coffee mug, post card, and a handwritten note addressed to us thanking us for staying at the hotel (they scored big points with us by giving us a handwritten note).

We ate at the restaurant at the hotel for dinner. The food was good and we liked our table where we sat inside and looked out of the open window into the pretty courtyard.

We stayed here three nights in a standard room for $140. It was great, the price was good, service was amazing. The room was very clean and well taken care of. The staff were extremely helpful and the place had extra amenities like computers for guest use. They even stored our bags for us free of charge while we were in the jungle for a week. The water from the tap is good to drink (important and money saving).

The restaurant was good. We had heard so many reviews saying it was amazing so maybe our expectations were too high (my husband also worked in fine dining for years), the food was good and presentation beautiful but I didn't think it was necessarily, "out of this world". This being said, I do still recommend that you eat there, it is very good, just not the best I have ever had good, like I have heard others say.

Overall: if you are going to San Jose, this is the place to stay without a doubt. So happy we found this place and look forward to returning one day.

This is a superb boutique hotel with very few faults. The building is beautiful both inside and out. When we arrived late in the evening, the reception check-in guy was not in uniform: he had a zipped up sweater which was unprofessional given all other staff we saw during our stay were in uniform. The room was not huge but very adequate with a lovely open air but private garden courtyard. We actually kept the door open all night with ceiling fans running which was lovely. The room was spotless and also had 'green' features such as recycling bins, etc. The shampoo, soap, etc is in a dispenser on the wall in the shower. I understand the whole recycling thing and support not using unnecessary plastic but perhaps the dispenser could be nicer reflecting the rest of the aesthetic features of the hotel. Breakfast was superb with an a la carte menu, fresh juice and great coffee (of course!!). We also had dinner in the hotel restaurant which is rated one of the best restaurants in San Jose. It was amazing - beautifully executed, top quality ingredients and great service. The only criticism is that the waiter evidently did not know a lot about the wine list and should have sent over the sommelier (and we should have asked). The sommelier did later take us down to the wine cellar and showed us around the highly rated wine cellar. A great night - and we just had to go upstairs to bed! The city centre is about 10-15 minutes walk away and we had an enjoyable time taking a guided tour of the Grand Theatre (beautiful), exploring the Central Market (fun!) and visiting the Gold Museum (excellent and informative). Back at the hotel, we had a jacuzzi one afternoon which was really nice. The temperature had dropped so getting into a warm jacuzzi was really great but not sure that I would want to get in when it is really hot and humid. Perhaps they could get a small cool plunge pool. In any case, this hotel was amazing and I would highly recommend it! Stay at Hotel Grano de Oro if you can!

We stayed in San Jose for the first night of our vacation. We were able to check in earlier than the proposed check in time and we surprisingly upgraded to a beautiful Garden Suite. The ambiance of the room was beautiful. We did not venture off to far away from the hotel since we felt like we had everything we needed at the hotel. We ate Dinner at the restaurant later that evening and can honestly say it was one of the best meals we have ever had. The poached quail eggs and duck carpaccio were out of this world. Our server was very attentive and gave us an experience that is hard to find back in the States. I wish we remembered his name...The bed was comfortable and having the garden view with the water fountain turned on made for a truly tranquil sleep. Breakfast the next morning was very good as well. The outside courtyard of the restaurant was a beautiful setting and service was very quick and efficient. From talking to others there was not much to do in San Jose so we really didnt feel like we missed much outside of the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would come back to San Jose just to stay at the hotel and eat at the restaurant.
