“wonderful hotel with excellent service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

Upon arrival at the hotel we were welcomed with drinks.Checking in went fast and smoothly. Our room was nicely decorated just as the rest of the hotel was. The windows were open so there was a nice fresh atmoshere in the room. Coffeemaking facilities, free WiFi, a fruit platter and all the appropriate amenities were included. The room was superclean and so were the restrooms in the hotel. Friendly staff and very helpful with faxing documents to travel agency. Little gift shop next to the hotel sells nice items though fairly overpriced. Breakfast is abundant with good coffee, fresh juice, etc., etc. San José is not very pretty or appealing but the Hotel Grano de Oro makes a visit worthwhile.

This is a colonial hotel, full of elegance, but for those who want to pay the expensive fare, it is fair and worth it. herds are comfortable and service is good. Actually the whole team worked remarkably hard to solve an internet problem I had.

We spent one night here and had a fantastic experience. Hotel staff greeted us out front and signaled ahead to the check in staff. We were greeted with fresh wash cloths and juice on check in. Excellent service, wonderful room with a very comfortable bed. We had a ground floor room off the fountain courtyard. We loved the charm, but we also loved how close the hotel was to the center of town. We enjoyed walking down the Avenida Central to the mercado. Had dinner in the restaurant. Our server was a bit stiff/quiet at first, but eventually opened up and we had a fabulous experience. The brulee cheese appetizer was simply scrumptious. We had a great night of sleep after soaking in the roof top jacuzzis before bed. I wish we'd stayed here again on our last night returning to San Jose. We just loved the boutique feel of the hotel and the friendly, welcoming staff.

Close to the Avenida Colon this nicely restaured old house offers very quiet rooms where you really feel that you are in Central America. Plenty of patios and fountains. Rooms are very clean but some may be rather dark being at the inside of the house. Small sun terrace with jacuzzi.Good breakfast a la carte in very nice patio.

Probably a 20/30 minute drive from the airport to town. We only had one night at the hotel and once we got there it was so nice that we decided not to go out and to make the most of the hotel instead. We had lunch there as the dinning area is beautiful, they have a great menu, and the meals were delicious. Our room looked out onto a small garden so you don't feel like you're in the city at all. We had to leave early so didn't get to experience their breakfast but the coffee station was up and running with takeaway mugs. If we return to Costa Rica, I would certaintly stay there again.

check in was a breeze lovely smiles and a cool drink. The room was excellent, beautiful bathroom and wonderful court yard with a bubbling fountain.
The staff were courteous and professional.
We booked for the restaurant in the hotel and was expecting something special as we have travelled from NZ and had read many reviews.
Alas we were given a table in the courtyard with an oversized umbrella covering our table. We asked if the wait staff could remove the umbrella and we were told it was there in case it rained.
We eventually got it moved and saw above a lovely starry night.
The food was top marks delicious.
Our only problem was the moment we had finished our first course it was whisked away and replaced with our next course, so we had no time to sit back and relax and digest our first course.
The wait staff seemed to want us out of there as soon as possible and for a restaurant of high esteem, I had to ask for cracked pepper. I know I am being picky, but when you pay high prices you expect Grano service.
Again wonderful hotel will stay again and again
cheers

We stayed 2 nights with our family. The city of San Jose is very nice, but there is very little to do and it feels a little unsafe after dark. I think the government could spend a little time cleaning up the public areas in the city and making it a little more tourist friendly.
The hotel on the other hand is first class. Wonderful service and fine dining at a reasonable price. The open air part of the restaurant was a
little oasis in the city!
