I have stayed here several times and ulike other places I have stayed it have gotten better. I miss the old bed and breakfast style but the new appointments are more then a pleasure. The hotel now boast a really nice outdoor and indoor dining are but is a bit on the pricey side. If you like a tart drink order the limonade. It is a great place to stay in the city but not in the muk proper. It is a great starting point to get you going and unlike others say about not spending all your time in the hotel it could be well worth it here, when you need to rest up. I would suggest booking this towards the end of you adventure as a treat or a place to recoup, but do note that you really don't want to be in the the city. Check out the other hotels affiliated. They are just as good and somewhat better. They have internet in the lobby and two hot tubs on the roof. Convienent location for arranging tours and surpasses almost everything in the vacinity for value and accomodation. They will even hold your luggage if you have breaks in your stay.

We stayed at the Hotel Grano de Oro on April 4th. It was our last night in Costa Rica after a week of vacationing, and it was a wonderful stay. The restaurant was fantastic, and the hotel was beautifully decorated, and we loved our garden patio. We were fond of the sign in the main hallway asking guests to be silent in the nighttime so as not to wake up sleeping guests...if only hotels in the US were as considerate. While we likely wouldn't return to San Jose, if we ever do, it will include a stop here.

We stayed at this hotel on the 20th and 21st March this year. It was beautiful with great service from all the staff. We stayed in the garden suite which was huge and very tastefully decorated. We also dined in the restaurant which was perfect and full of local people, which I think is always a good guide to the quality of the food. Dont miss the rooftop jaccuzi to relax and watch the stars.

Grano de Oro is an excellent hotel. The rooms are very elegantly appointed and while there is no A/C, the breeze and the ceiling fan kept the room pleasantly cool. The statff is great; when American lost our luggage a staff member called the counter throughout the night to get status updates. The gift shop also is an nicely edited collection of Costa Rican souvenirs and very reasonably priced.

Last, the restaurant. If you stay at this hotel, please do not go anywhere else for dinner! The restaurant is richly decorated and the food is equally delicious. The food itself is electic; as an indication, we had foie gras, tuna tataki, steak in a gorganzola sauce and rabbit in a mushroom sauce. Breakfast is excellent as well, as was the service at both meals. I highly recommend staying here!
