“An Average Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

My wife and I stayed here on the first and last nights of a trip to Costa Rica. The rooms are rather dark - neither of ours had windows, but were adequately clean and stocked for the most part.
The attitude of the staff varied from very pleasant and helpful, to disinterested, to quite rude. The bell hops were very helpful and looked for ways to watch out for us as did most of the people at reception. There was a business group in the restaurant the one night we ate there, and the waiter seemed to forget we were there. The food was quite good, though.
One person at reception, when we told him that my wife's skin seemed to be a little sensitive to the liquid soap in the room and asked if they had any bars of soap told me this: "We don't have any, so if you want a bar of soap, there is a store about 5 blocks down the street and you will have to walk down there and buy it yourself." Perhaps there was some cultural misinterpretation on my part, but this seemed a little unnecessary.
We were only there a short time each of the 2 nights, but this would not be my first choice should we return to San Jose.

the hotel is ice and not big and crowded, the rooms are nice and big with everything you need - the breakfast was good with gallo pinto and we enjoyed some nice sushi for lunch one day. the only thing is that you are far from the centre but we had a good walk in and a cheap cab ride back. we rented a car and it was easy to find the hotel leaving and enetering san jose. good service, clean big rooms, good wifi in rooms, nice food - we liked it. the three fitness machines and the little tub in the public area was not something you feel liek using - not secluded enough and not big enough.

Frankly speaking I did not like this hotel, other than the convenience of it being close to the industrial area, and the west end of Sabana Park, cutting out a lot of traffic in the morning.

The first shock is the dark and tiny rooms. Coupled with drab browns and yellows colour scheme it can be depressing, dark and gloomy, and the windows do not open, light only comes from a light shaft, from what I saw every rooms is like this.

Next is the breakfast, Very simple buffet with cereal, fruit and awful bread for toast, cardboard comes to mind. Add lethargic service (but friendly staff) and you do not get a good impression.

By the third day I would go to the Subway 4 bocks up for a bit of a change.

The AC is a wall mounted one and a bit noisy.

Bed OK to sleep but bathroom tiny with a OK shower but not much room to ove, nowhere to hang hand washed underwear, socks etc.

The price was also very high.

Also the location is shown differently on different maps, it is actually on Calle Lang, west end of Sabana park, near the football stadium end, not at the MacDonalds end of Sabana park

No pool, no gym, no hope!

Overall I do not recommend this hotel at all. There are much better choices in San Jose, and if you are working, maybe 10 min of extra trafic is OK to stay in eg nearby Parque del Lago.

Room Tip: Not at this hotel

Nice boutique hotel in San Jose! While small, the rooms were exceptionally nice. Updated bathrooms, good quality linens, and a very helpful staff made our short stay in San Jose a very pleasant one. It is within walking distance of the soccer stadium, parks, restaurants, and markets. The hotel restaurant is also quite good, though a short walk could lead you to other, more economical eateries.

I would definitely recommend staying at the Rincon del Valle Hotel if you are traveling to San Jose!

This was the best and nicest room of our stay in Costa Rica! The hotel room was very modern, although small. We didn't spend any time in the room other than to sleep so it didn't bother us. The hot tub was very nice, and partly outside. The breakfast was great! We parked our rental across the street in a lot that was fenced and we were a little nervous, but the next morning it was fine. The hotel is hard to find, but if you have GPS it's no problem. This was a great transient night for us here!

I ended in this hotel because barcelo and crowne plaza were crowded and I needed to be close to the area. They suggested this hotel to me and at the end it turned out to be great.
Prices are cheaper than other hotels but you have to take in consideration that the rooms are small and have no great views. Despite of this, rooms are perfectly equipped and very clean. Service is EXCELLENT and they work on every request you make (e.g. I asked them if they knew some restaurants nearby to order some food and they created a list with phone numbers/names/specialties from each restaurant they could find doing deliveries).
In my opinion this is a great hotel if you won't spend all day in the premises...it does the trick for resting after a whole day working/visiting landmarks.
Sabana park is only a few feet away so if you like jogging that is a great chance to do it daily. You can get to the track or run around the lake...it only takes you 10 mins walking distance to get there from the hotel.
They also offer the chance to go to a fitness gym (fully equipped) that is only 2 mins. walking distance.
Again...this is not a good option if you are a "stay inside the hotel all day long" kind of guy....this is a nice affordable hotel for those who come here to work/tour most of the day and want to return to a clean/comfortable place without paying super high prices.

I guess we were spoiled because we stayed at the Ramada on the first leg of our trip. The rooms are a little small here and due to its location in town, it has few windows. It is a little claustrophobic. The view from the front of the hotel is of barbed wire and barred windows typical of San Jose but for the price, I really expected more. The restaurant was wonderful and the food very good. The only real issue that I had was that the ice machine was broken and you had to go to the bar for ice.
