“Economical, central, clean and safe”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

There is nothing grand about this hotel, but nothing wrong with it either in our perception. Its in walking distance of the Sabana Park or even down town if you are reasonably fit. Its also safe despite the central location. Our room was clean though a little lived in. No A/C in our room but in Costa Rica we did not miss it.
The room was specious as we had a suite, which was great for a family of four. The staff were also helpful and polite. The restaurant is also OK, though not a gourmet experience.
This hotel is worth consideration if you are on a budget and want to stay inside the ring road.

We stayed here from Feb 10-19. We were with a group and this was booked beyond my control and some of the reports on here worried me a bit. Not to worry....this place is great. Its biggest point, I think, is the security. One way entrance into the hotel with an outer all like a fortress. An open center with pool to which the rooms overlook the beautiful grounds. Everything opens to the courtyard and we never came in that a hotel employee wasn't at the door or greet us. Clean, with huge towels and plenty of hot water. The only drawbacks....the safe in our room didn't work (someone had recently taken off with the key and it hadn't been replaced), there were no washcloths (often the case in foreign countries--take your own), the bed was a bit hard and the pillows were tiny and flat. And half way through our week, the wifi went out and since it was the weekend, the company that needed to fix it didn't work. The food was a bit blah and we had to send hamburgers back twice to get the red out...we did eat the lettuce and drink the water without problem. I would certainly stay here again!

What a mess! Food trays with uneaten food left in the hallways; flooded hallways; old stained carpeting on the steps; dying plants on the landings. Now for the room; the AC died my first night in the room, never to work again; there were two used greasy bobby pins left on the shelf in the bathroom; roaches in the shower; ants appeared in the sink each time I used it; the bed was old and soft, as were the bedding. The pool and grounds appeared to be well kept, and the restaurant was not bad. The free breakfast was extensive, although cold. Overall this was an unpleasant experience and I left a night early.

Room Tip: Stay someplace else!

I specifically chose Hotel Torremolinos because of its swimming pool and hotel location. The hotel location is great, being walking distance from the main San Jose city park and the new national stadium. But most everything else about the hotel was not good. The swimming pool turned out to be cold, dirty and in need of water. The rooms and sleeping quality were poor at best. We had a great experience with an extremely helpful front desk person but I would say that there are better places to stay in San Jose.

The Manager Jerry Duran and his staff are very cooperative and would go out of their way to make you comfortable. Their complimentary breakfast needs some improvement. The neighborhood is quiet and taxis are available very quickly. Clemente is always on hand to take you around. My family and I enjoyed it there.

What more can I say than old blood stains and strands of hair on the cardboard box mattress that's supposed to serve as a bed. Two flat smelly pillows. The door didn't lock and the bathroom looks like a flashback to the fifties. Old, rusty, and gross. I'd rather sleep in my car. We ended up leaving after an hour.

They are completely refurbishing the hotel and I got a peak at one of the new rooms and it was a huge improvement. The neighborhood is good, safe, with restaurants, groceries, and a wonderful park nearby. Breakfast buffet was decent, stick with fruit for other meals, which were disappointing and expensive. Pool is a joke. Well priced.
