After a pleasant stay at the Barcelo Palacio last year, I felt confident in using the hotel as a base of sorts for this years trip back to a country we have grown to love. My husband stayed there 2 nights at the start of his trip and then I joined him midtrip for a night and then we stayed a 4th night before leaving the next morning from the San Jose Airport. While the accomodations were still nice, we found the service to be lacking. Each morning we were forced to the front desk to remind them that our reservation via expedia.com included breakfast. It was a pain to say the least and the restaurant staff was less than understanding and made us feel as if we were trying to scam some eggs and toast. You would think that by the fourth time they would have finally gotten the confusion resolved, but nope, each day the same issue came up at the end of our meal. Also, we left word with the front desk that we would be having a package delivered to the hotel the day prior to our final night's stay. They said that would be no problem at all. The vendor arrived to deliver the package and they said they had no record of us making arrangements for the delivery and didn't even show us as staying at the hotel the next night. Ironic, because when we arrived and asked if the package had arrived upon check in they had the notes right there with our reservation. We were able to resolve the delivery the next morning, but again, it was a hassle and we incurred extra delivery charges. I was satisfied with our stay, but I left thinking I'd probably try a new place next year.
