Our first trip to San Jose, we wanted a centrally located hotel to explore the city. This hotel is as central as you can get, next door to the National Theatre, it sits overlooking the Plaza Cultura.
The lobby is grand and inviting, but that's where the experience ends. We paid for a superior room that was large enough, but it was so noisy from the street below it was incredible. We asked for another room which was provided without qualm, unfortunately, the second room was small, dark and had a tiny slatted window that overlooked a central covered area with no light, but at least it was quiet. That is until the cleaning staff came clattering around at 6.30 the next morning.
That morning we sat in the outside restaraunt that's famed for people-watching, but by the time we had our food, we'd seen half the population of San Jose go by and the other half by the time the bill came.
We'd reported the fan as being out of order (there's no aircon) along with the fridge, nobody ever came around. At 6.30AM the second morning the noise from the cleaning staff was so loud, I opened the door to tell them to stop shouting, they looked at me and carried on.
We voiced our complaints on checkout to the receptionist and we got a shrug in return.
The hotel is old, out of condition, noisy and has rude staff, but as the review says, at least it's central.
