I am Ecuadorian and this hotel makes you feel like you are in the USA, which is Ok for me, but an American may want to try local feeling. Regarding accomodations, they were clean but a little old. No complaints though. There are some rooms with a nice pool front veranda and some others with only a window to the street. Pay attention to that while checking in.

Stayed here the night before and the night after Jaco Beach. It was OK for a lay over. The hotel bar was creepy and I felt safe enough to pass out after the flight. I wouldn't stay here to 'do San Jose'. 'Nuff said.

Irazu is a ok place if you want to be in san Jose. I paid just over $100 for my room. I was a little disappointed by the room size and the furnishings were "average" ....something you would see in a Best Western back in the states. I was shocked when I ordered room service (Denny's is in the Hotel) the bill came to $21.00 for sandwich, two cokes and an order of french fries.
What I liked about the hotel is the club. On weekends the "Canteen"
is hopping. Mucho people. Security can hassle you a little when arriving and exiting- maybe to keep out people who don't belong. the Galleria restaurant that was across street before is now closed - Subway now - might be a cheaper place to eat.

It's a good hotel in terms of location, staff, grounds, and ease. They have an internet room, which is very nice, and Denny's, which is good for a smooth transition into a culture change.

The rooms, however, vary. We stayed one night at the beginning of our trip in a beautiful room that looked as if it had recently been renovated and then we stayed the last night of our trip in a different room that was moldy, shabby, and kind of icky.

It seems that if they have lots of security personnel, it is supposed to make us feel safer,...but being from LA, I see extra security and think I'm not safe at all because extra security is needed. SO, that was different.

The staff was very nice. The internet room was nice. Ask for a recently renovated room.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — Internet Room, proximity to airport, friendly staff
    • Disliked — cleanliness of room

As we previously stayed in a Best Western property in Costa Rica, we decided to book directly through the hotel in Jaco. We wanted a hotel
near the San José airport, to catch our flight back home. There are two Best Western hotels in San José, but this one is closer to the airport and major roads.

There is a very nice interior garden, as well as a pool. The hotel is not that recent, but the rooms are very clean. We had a patio door
with a view on the garden and pool. There are two computers with free
internet, as well as wireless internet in the lobby. I saw that they had a bar, but did not go.

There is a Denny's next door that you can walk to, if you want to grab a quick bite. Nothing fancy, I admit, but it's as good as any Burger King or Wendy's. There is also a casino in the hotel, and we went to gambling a bit. But, caution! If they offer you any of those
"appetizer" things, do not take one, because they are horrible! I had
to spit what I ate in an ashtray because it was uneatable.

I'd say it's an excellent hotel for an overnighter before you take a plane back home, because there's not a lot to do around.

    • Liked — It was near the airport, and the free Internet is a nice perk.
    • Disliked — There are not a lot of things to do around.
