“Loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

I don't have any complaints about this place! ok, maybe one..

The place is clean and comfy, the front desk staff were really nice and I felt comfortable and safe. (I was there by myself). Also, the pictures they have only are accurate.

It is a few stores from a super market and some cowboy shops (they sold cowboy stuff) and a few blocks from the shopping area.

I truly dislike San Jose, CR because it reminds me of the Bronx, NY on Fordham RD however, this place was really nice and I enjoyed my night stay.

There were some workers relaxing when I arrived. I didn't like this because it looked unprofessional however, they were in the back near the kitchen awaiting customers and I just happened to need the bathroom so I had to walk past them. The were not rude or unfriendly, it was just unexpected on my part (partly because I am used to NYC and DC life but mostly because I am an HR professional).

Cost+ atmosphere= good cheap living!

I duly recommended, staff very helpful, rooms were clean and will be cleaned if asked. arrived late at night and put us in the first available room. The hostel is within walking distance to the city, bus station, supermarket, restaurants, and parks. Hostel has a unique charm with detailed wooden banister. price also includes breakfast. WIFI Great no problems found.

Suggestions to improve one's stay: better lighting in rooms, more attention is needed for cleaner washrooms and showers.

Room Tip: For an extra $2 choose the breakfast option. rooms in the ground floor towards the back are fairly s...

The hostel is within walking distance to the city, bus station, supermarket, restaurants, and parks. Hostel has a unique charm with detailed wooden banister, spiral staircase, wooden floors and modern furniture. The staff is pleasant, and Wifi is great.
The bunk beds in the dorms are clean with comfortable mattress, fluffy pillow, thick sheets, and soft warm blanket. There are ample lockers and a large fan in the room.
Suggestions to improve one's stay: better lighting in rooms without windows, more attention is needed for cleaner washrooms, staff should knock before entering, and doors need to be pushed hard to close resulting in loud noise. I don't think the staff can do anything about couples actively making out on the couch in the hallway at 1:00 am. Hope they realize there are cameras ....

Dispite no hot water working, noisy walls and a mediocre breakfast this hostl scored very well. The hostel has great rooms, well working wifi, big tv, nice staff, good atmosphere and fantastic location. I would recommend staying here.

Me and 2 friends had the private room with 2 double beds. The beds were comfortable and the size of the room was really big but there is NO storage - no wardrobe, no drawers, not even a hook on the door! So you have a tiny bedside table and a desk but some storage would be really useful. It's on an incredibly busy road, don't expect much sleep here!
Bathroom was poor, shoddily done and the shower didn't drain properly plus it smelt of drains all night.
The hostel does look much trendier than some, the design aspects are well done but it's forgotten some small but important details. Staff were OK and the breakfast was alright.

I just celebrated my wedding in San Jose, and I purchased two private rooms to house my groomsmen.

First off this is no regular hostel. I consider it to be on the top end of any hostel. The staff is reasonably nice, by allowing us to check in early and cheerfully answering our questions.

The private rooms were great. Two showers and toilets in one of the private room, which was a great amenity.

The only negative part about the stay was the power was off due to maintenance one of the mornings and it was critical for me to communicate with my guests coming into town for the wedding.

This place has a great location, as it is so close to many clubs, restaurants, and banks.

We couldn't have picked a better place for such a memorable weekend!

About a year ago, my wife and I strapped on our backpacks and ventured to San Jose, Costa Rica. We got there not knowing where to go or where to start so we wondered around the city looking for somewhere to spend the night. We have gone to hostels before but never one like Casa Colon, Located on Paseo Colon.

Other than having very low prices per night/person, it was incredibly clean and well organized!

It has a bar/coffee shop area where you can buy local beers cheaper than the local bars, and a terrace area where you can enjoy the view of the city.

We liked Casa Colon so much that instead of just staying the night, we decided to stay there every day that we were in San Jose.

Two thumbs up!
