Owner description: Admire the imposing Poás Volcano from 2.708m (8.884ft) above sea level, and visit a unique coffee plantation and the historic city of Sarchí on this exciting day trip. The tour’s first stop is Poás Volcano National Park, where you will enjoy magnificent views of the Central Valley and the volcano’s enormous crater - one of the biggest in the world! Next, you will visit Doka Estate and its beautiful coffee plantations. Your tour guide will take you through the estate, visiting the plantations and the 96 year old "beneficio" or coffee mill. Having learned how premium coffee beans turn into a fabulous cup of java, you will enjoy a typical Costa Rican lunch.

“Great Tour!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2014

We went on the tour on December 27 and loved it. The shuttle was about a half hour later than we were told it would be, but not a big deal. The tour guide George and driver Mau were fabulous.

The drive to Doka was about an hour long, but George told us interesting facts about Costa Rica the entire time so it went quickly, the countryside is beautiful! The breakfast buffet was small but good, and the coffee was great. The tour was informative and hands on, very interesting to see how much work and time goes into a cup of coffee!

We were lucky and had a very clear day, so the volcano was visible and it was warm.
On the way back down the mountain we stopped at a local market and picked up fresh strawberries, delicious!

The nature reserve and waterfall hike was amazing! Such a beautiful environment, and the trail is well kept so it wasn't difficult to walk. We had a chance to stop and get lots of pictures of two beautiful waterfalls, although we weren't able to swim in the river as it was too turbulent in those areas. There is a shuttle at the bottom to take you back to your bus so that saved some time, as the hike down the mountain was quite far.

“Poas Volcano, Doka Coffee & Rainforest Butterfly Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

This tour is offered with the National Park Rainforest & Butterfly as an option over Sarchi Arts.

Loved this combo tour and I don't even drink coffee. But by the time I was finished I had experienced hiking amongst active Volcanoes, Butterflies, Poison Frogs, Waterfalls, Hummingbirds and a Wet Coffee Mill Plantation all in separate stops.

Take a windbreaker / rain coat combination because the Volcano is 9,000 feet up and cool, the rainforest and waterfalls are wet like the name says. The coffee plantation Butterflies and humming birds are all sunny and warm with tons of flowers and gardens.

As a bonus this is extremely educational and just by default you will learn about everything you see including identification of different species. There is no shortage of species here we saw probably a dozen different types of humming birds probably 20 different exotic Dart Frogs. Butterflies are everywhere and huge in size. Close up and personal.

“Far better than expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2013

The Doka Estate Coffee Tour is general part of a larger tour including one of the volcanos. We had absolutely no expectation of the Doka coffee part. We expected something along the line of a Chinese silk tour where they show you silk production for maximum 5 minutes and then spend hours in trying to sell you merchandise. The reverse is true here. Our guide spend a considerable amount of time explaining the growing, harvesting, processing en roasting of coffee. All the time walking around the estate and showing us the different technics and machineries used in the process. Never knew that so much work was going into my morning brew and I have a far better understanding of the cost of a cup although I still think that Starbucks is way overpriced. After the tour we did of course had the chance to buy some coffee or related product (why one would want coffee scented soap beats me but yes it was there) but there was absolutely no pressure and it took not more than a few minutes. This is as these type of tours should be. So do take the tour, it is very enjoyable and you learn something as well.

The volcano was great! The Doka coffee estate was great too learned all about coffee. Sarchi was my favorite the tour guides took us to a little shop to get souvenirs and the cathedral was beautiful.

“Doka Coffee Plantation is good but overpriced”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013 via mobile

As part of our visit to the Poas Volcano, our guide took us to the Doka Coffee Plantation Tour. The tour itself is ok, their guide takes you through the process from planting, to harvesting, peeling the beans, roasting them, etc. My only complain is the price. 20 USD per person is too much for what you get. When they told us the price, i thought it would include a bag of coffee or a sampler of their products, or something other than just the tour, but it didn't. If you want any of their products you have to but them. My suggestion..... Reduce the price, or give a sampler to take home.
