We did not take the tour itself because we had a car, but we visited Lankester Gardens and Irazu Volcano and we drove around beautiful Orosi Valley. After driving ourselves, we can say that it would have been more enjoyable on a tour because the driving can be difficult and is tiring. Lankester has over 1000 orchids, but they bloom naturally so the most blooms are in the April/May time frame. However, the grounds are quite beautiful and you will see wonderful plants from various areas in CR. The grounds alone make it worth the visit. Irazu Volcano is far more exquisite than Poas Volcano and has a view of both the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico if the air is clear. Be sure to dress warmly because it is cold and windy. The gift shop at Irazu is a little pricey so be prepared. The Orosi Valley has coffee bushes covering the hillsides, as well as many banana trees and other vegetation. There is a tradition here of carving coffee bush roots (much nicer than it sounds), so make sure you have the opportunity to buy a carving. The ones we bought ranges from $7 to $10 and they can be safely carried home in your luggage. In all, we enjoyed the cool climate of the Orosi Valley area very much and highly recommend it.
