Owner description: Rios Tropicales is an eco-adventure company that operates throughout Costa Rica. We offer adventure activities that take advantage of Costa Rica’s unique variety of environments: whitewater rafting, multisport activities that feature kayaking, canoeing, hiking, and cycling, family adventures, cultural encounters, nature and wildlife tours, and “volun-tourism”. Our mission, to share the rivers, natural resources and culture of Costa Rica while sharing conservation values, has not changed since we began in 1985. Rios Tropicales was established by native Central Americans, El Salvadorian Rafael Gallo and Costa Rican Fernando Esquivel, whose deep connection with the region and culture are apparent in every aspect of the company.

“Fabulous and Safe Whitewater Rafting on Pacuare River”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Rios Tropicale picked us in San Jose and transported us about two hours to the rafting center. On the way the personable guide gave us safety information. Although we have been whitewater rafting in the U.S. before, we were nervous but excited. The scenery was magnificent. The white-water rafting was FABULOUS--much better than the Ocoee River in Tennesse/Georgia area and Colorado. This is what I found interesting...I actually felt SAFER in Costa Rica than in the U.S. These are safety features...the vests were good quality, the rafts stayed far enough apart to be enjoyable, but close enough to assist if needed, there was an extra kayaker that accompanied the "fleet" of 5 rafts to assist if required. I never once felt unsafe. The guide was very personable and friendly. He was great at giving commands that ensured we had a great trip. NOTE: This is a team sport. Our team worked together and we had a great time. I don't really think the Pacuare is for kids under 12 or under. You do need to be able to pull your weight.
Breakfast and lunch were included with our package and both were typical Costa Rican fare, simple, good, filling.

“Awesome adventure and nature trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

Rios Tropicales offers great adventure and relaxing.time at the lodge. The lodging , the deck area, the dining area has great view of the forest and river. There is a hanging bridge and a nearby natural pool. Hike trail leads to a falls where you can slide like in a pool, but natural setting. The rapelling is in a nice falls and the zip line crosses the river twice! Spent 3 days and 2 nights here. Really awesome nature tripping. The river is beautiful and exciting, been to different river for rafting and Pacuare river is so far the best! Great bonding with our guide, Roy, who used to be a part of the national rafting team! He is great, gave our group the best time rafting in the river. It was hard to leave. This place/adventure is 5 stars, definitely! I will be back! I'll recommend to my friends.

“Whitewater Rafting Sarapiqui River/Costa Rica”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

This was my husband and 12 year old daughter's first experience whitewater rafting and the trip exceeded all of our expectations. The guides (Mei and Diego) were amazing, they were very safety conscious as well as interested in making sure we had a good time! The pineapple and mango treat halfway through the trip was tasty and the lunch afterwards was the best local Costa Rican food I had the entire trip. This tour will stand out as the most memorable of our whole trip. I highly recommend this rafting company and wouldn't hesitate to use them again when we go back!

“Amazing time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

First time water rafting was amazing! Our guide, Leo was very funny and all the guides were easy going and fun. Staying at the Lodge was even better, a couple nights there was perfect and very relaxing. Definitely a great time. We saw a toucan, thanks to Leo. I learned so much from him, I loved it! The best thing is that they take things at your speed and they don't make you so anything you don't want to do. We got to jump from some rocks, which was out of my comfort zone for sure, but glad I did it. At the end of the trip we headed back to the rafting center and had a nice breakfast and we got to see our pictures before we bought them, definitely a must! It was a fascinating experience which I highly recommend.

“white water rafting pacuare”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

We had a great experience!!!! This rafting company is awesome...they pick you up at your hotel, provide you with breakfast and lunch, which were both delicious, spend the day on the river and then bring you back to your hotel...all included in their price. They have showers and changing areas which were really clean. The staff is great...they speak very good english andour tour guide was super sweet. The white water rafting was way better than anything we have done back in the US. They had multiple kayaks along with the raft to assist if anyone fell in. Great experience....would definitely recommend!
