“Amazing view, but hard to find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2011

We were very happy once we arrived to see the amazing view of the city. My only recommendation is to take a taxi or shuttle. We rented a car and it was at night. We would never have found it if we didn't have a GPS. The roads are very narrow and steep. The hotel was nice and the breakfast was excellent. Staff was very good.

Thank you for your review we value every customer feedback and comments.

Following your review and other customers advise we have spent time and money on new hotel signs that have been posted on the light post from the main highway to the front gate of the hotel.
Since doing so our customer have commented on the ease of finding the hotel.

Nevertheless, since there are no street signs in CR we recomend for our customers to use GPS or to call the front desk for directions.

We appreciate and thank you for your great comment and advise. Here at Paradaise we are trying to improve to provide you with the best experience during your stay.

We had to find a hotel to stay so we could get to the airport early in the morning. I looked on line and found this one -- WOW! What an incredible, pleasant surprise when we found it. It is not easy to get to (very steep hills -- ) and windy road. Use your GPS if you have one. The view is unbelievable -- a panoramic view of San Jose from the restaurant. The food was fantastic. The people are wonderful, friendly and accomodating. My aunt was upgraded from a single standard to a junior suite just so she could stay on the same floor with us! The staff speaks excellent English. I can't think of anything negative to say. The rooms are quaint. Phone calls to the US are free. The internet access is so much quicker than the one I have in rural Virginia. I would love to come back and stay a few more days. I regret that I have to leave tomorrow!

Room Tip: The only room I stayed in is a corner king sized bed with an incredible view of the city below. My...

I was staying at the Paradise Inn to recover from surgery. The staff are all super friendly, and accomodating even when you don't speak spanish well (or at all)! My room was super clean and quiet and the views of downtown SanJose were stunning. It really made my trip. The food was acceptable and the kitchen staff was happy to make new dishes that we requested by mixing two items on the menu. If you order the same thing two nights in a row- it may or may not be exactly the same as it was the first time... Also bring some snacks along with you because if the kitchen is closed- you aren't eating and there is no place close by to go (that vending machine is not the right answer!). I was provided shuttle service for all of my doctors visits and hospital visits but taking a local cab was really no problem- just remember to grab a business card off the front desk before you head out because Paradise is hard to find and the card has a map on the back and contact info which they will inevitably have to use.
My few concerns during my stay were- the farm nearby that burned garbage every single morning and sometimes again later in the day. The smell was foul and soaked into all of my clothes. The shower drain also had a bad smell as I noticed other reviewers commented on, I just made sure my plastic shower mat was laying over top of it and the smell disappeared. They advertise a gym facility as well as a pool. The 'gym' is a grouping of dilapidated equipment and the pool was behind lock and key and in a state of disrepair. I wasn't able to use these things anyway but my companion was left high and dry for anything to do. We found the wifi to be quite good, even downloaded some movies on our laptop to watch and used our iphones on wifi settings all day long with No problems. The free calling to Canada was also a really nice bonus. Roy was working the front desk and Rafa was our driver most days- both went above and beyond to make us comfortable- THanks guys!

Room Tip: Room 14 and all the ones around it have a great view and the sounds of the bubbling fountain to put...

Best hotcakes ever for breakfast. Awsome views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Professional, friendly staff. Rustic style hotel in serene setting. Flowers, birds, nature all around. Perfect for meditating and exercising. Did not want to leave the premises. Great 7 day stay. Definitely will be back.

Room Tip: I like the ones looking at the valley down below. Room 28 is awsome!

The hotel is so so, comparable to a Motel 6 in the US. The price is good. The shower has very low water flow. But they have a very good staff, especially the front desk person named Leo who is very helpful and friendly to us and others. He's the kind of hotel employee everyone wants to run into while away from home. One more thing you should know: Though the hotel is in a very scenic area, it is kind of out of place, the taxi charged us $35 for the 8-mile trip from the airport (SJO), and the hotel also charged $35 for a shuttle trip back to the airport. The airport shuttle trips are usually free in almost all places. The hotel should provide them free if they want to boost up business. Also a number of tour operators unexpectedly charged us $10 extra for each person for pick-up and drop-off at this hotel. I think the hotel should negotiate with the tour operators for free pick-up here just as at other hotels.

Well I read the various reviews here, some good and some bad. Truth is, it´s in between.

First, they shouldn´t infer it´s in Escazu. It´s about 10 minutes from Escazu. They should tout it for what it is, it´s a getaway hotel on top of the mountain of Escazu San Antonio. If you´re here for business, it´s probably not the place. But if you´re looking for nice views, and want to be away from the city, it´s fine.

They are remodeling and getting it ready, so not all services are available.

I was in Room 7, a junior suite (only a few dollars more than a regular room). The internet was great here as the wifi unit is right outside.

The restaurant is open and looks nice, we had room service the food was okay, nothing spectacular. Nothing to complain about nothing to compliment.

The rooms have no air conditioning, and you´ll be fine since it´s chilly at night up in this mountain. It´s ok with the ceiling fan during the day. You´re not going to sit in the room sweating, but sometimes its very warm.

There weren´t many people here when I was here and they´ll need to do some marketing to stay in business.

The complaint about the dogs is unfounded. There are dogs on the street, as in most of C.R., but they don´t bother you and really don´t want nothing to do with you. The hotel has a large ground and it has a couple dogs they let loose at night for protection. When you are coming out at night, they put them away.

The beds are a little noisy because they are made from rustic bamboo, but again nothing really to complain about.

The room was clean as were the linens. Hot water worked.

The comment about the drains is correct, and its a problem at most hotels and apartments in Central America except the Hiltons, etc. The plumbing sucks. This means that you should probably stick a piece of plastic, or the shower mat they give you, over the drain, and the problem is solved. It´s really not that bad.

The warning about the roads is unfounded. The roads are paved. Be careful when its foggy, but rain isn´t a problem. It´s not a two lane highway, it´s a paved mountain road.

Nearby is a good romantic Italian restaurant.

Stayed there in July, 2011. Not a bad place, actually. Internet is free, but the signal in the rooms is so weak that I could not download YouTube, for example. Separately I need to mention the manager called Leo. He went out of his way to help us with everything, and boy did we have a lot of stuff going on. Leo is the dream associate any employer would want. You know how you approach a person with a question, and they answer monosyllabically, because they don't care. Like the light is on, but no one's home? Well, Leo was the very opposite of that. He was "there", he was in the moment, he was ready to help. Excellent interpreter, who taught himself English, he helped us get in touch with anyone we needed, as we do not speak any Spanish. We were in the middle of a complicated maze of making appointments with various doctors and ordering taxi for all of that, and we could not have done it without Leo. As for the rest in the hotel - the food is included and is excellent. The only thing from a spoiled mind - the pool did not look clean, and these was no jacuzzi. But, I guess, you can do without, when your primary goal is recuperation after a surgery.
