I stayed at the Hotel Beacon Escazu in Costa Rica for two nights while on a business trip. The hotel is right in the city and as my driver approached from the San Jose airport through a seedy neighborhood I was a bit apprehensive. My fears were groundless. The hotel property is beautiful and access is controlled by large metal gates to maintain safety. My room was large but being on the first floor was subject to noise from the lounge and breakfast room. Typical of tropical climates there was a musty smell that permeated the room. I have downgraded the hotel one whole point since my room was neither cleaned nor made up during my stay. The shower was adequate but not very powerful. Breakfast was included in the very reasonable room rate. The fresh fruit was the best part of breakfast. The staff all spoke English and were very solicitous. The hotel has a spa but I did not check it out. It would not take much to make this beautiful property into a first class resort.
