“"A Secret Garden"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

This beautiful boutique hotel surprised us when we found it in a less than beautiful area of Escazu. But once we parked our car underground and went up into the hotel, we left the city behind. It was like finding a secret garden in the middle of a busy street. There was an open courtyard where we had breakfast and a running stream that passed below our table in the restaurant so it felt like we were surrounded by nature. We had a suite on the top floor and everything was first class from the king sized beds with lovely linens and many pillows to the fluffy towels and cosy robes. The suite had a bed and full bathroom on the lower floor as well as a second 1/2 bath. The loft above held the other bed. The plan was well thought out to accommodate two couples , a family, or 2 business associates as in our case. There was a luxurious jacuzzi but be forewarned...you must fill it well in advance because it seemed to take forever and the water didn't seem hot enough. We gave up on it, too tired to wait. The hotel is tastefully done and feels more European than tropical. We had a welcome drink at the bar and the bartender, Mainor was a wonderful diplomat for the hotel. He was delightful and had someone bring out the salmon and tuna to show us the freshness and quality. He recommended wine and since it was a slow Sunday night, he turned into our very attentive waiter in the restaurant. We live in Costa Rica and service is sometimes lacking. Not in this hotel! Mainor was perfect. The restaurant was lovely and the food very good with a nice presentation. They had thrown a very successful Halloween part the night before, so they were short on a few items. I will have to return...I hear the scallops are to die for. The Beacon is certainly a hotel that I would recommend to my most discerning friends and family...a true delight

Room Tip: The suite on the top floor was huge , quiet, and very comfortable.

“Must stay here!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012 via mobile

This boutique hotel is beautiful. We were only able to stay here for one evening right before we flew home but we loved it. We were also upgraded to an executive suite when we checked in, which made it even better!

No but for just over £70 for one night we had this enormous room with floor to ceiling sliding glass doors, king size bed with enough pillows for 10 people and a sweet bathroom.

Very clean, classy and worth every penny. Oh and try the restaurant...the food literally melts in your mouth. The only down side to the restaurant is that they currently (I don't know why) are not serving alcohol - but we were informed that we could bring our own bottle of wine, so we did. Delicious!

“"Amazing Sized Rooms"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2012

We only got to stay here for a real short time but the property is beautiful. The room is spacious. The manager was very helpful with the exchanging of currency. Beware though, the two blocks we walked to get to the local bank was a bit shady. The bank didn't have an outdoor ATM and the doors were heavily chained. Odd! Make sure you have your local currency upon arriving here.

The spacious shower was great! I don't think we got to see the beautiful surroundings that everyone kept referring to in their reviews. It must have been in the opposite direction of the local bank.

Also, make your shuttle service from there a little bit early. Our guy was late with five minutes to spare, but thank goodness he was able to talk the local airlines to let us board.

“Jewel in the City”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

What a jewel we found in the city of Escazu (Near San Jose, Costa Rica). It is extremely well desiged and makes you feel surrounded by nature right in the middle of town. Luckily we met the owners while we were there, and it explained more about the hotel....caring, and hands on, businessmen you want to do business with. From the manager to the chef (Jose Mar-who totally loves what he does) all were friendly, helpful and professional. In addition-WHAT A BARGAIN!! Connie and Nat Ballou - Seattle WA

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the city are wonderful but a little more noisy with street traffic. We chose i...

“Beautiful Hotel, Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

Conveniently located near the San Jose International Airport and Tobias Bolanos Airport. The hotel is within walking distance to the Fresh Market. When I needed a flash drive, we walked to a store within the same block. The Food is EXCELLENT. Front Desk staff is very knowledgeable. I hope to stay here again.
