“"Excellent Experience"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2012

My son lives and works in San Jose. His boss from Long Beach, CA had stayed here for a business trip and also it was a 10 min bus ride from my son's office. My girlfriend from Atlanta took the trip with me and we met in Miami and flew together. We arrived in SJ around Noon on Sat Feb 18th and checked out on Feb 25th. The first room wasn't as large as it looked on the website, but it was very nice with a flat screen TV and large bathroom. The bedding was excellent! I had corresponded with one of the staff before my trip, so I had a nice rapport with him which was great! The other staff were very accomodating. I was pleasantly pleased at their version of "Continental Breakfast" which consisted of a nice portion of black beans and rice, cup of fresh fruit (wonderful), sliced tomatoes, toast and wonderful coffee with steamed milk. We did have a voucher for a free theraputic massage, but were too busy taking tours (which were wonderful). On Wed we transferred to a Suite because my son and his girlfriend were going to stay with us that night and although their was a little mix-up with the roll-away beds we had requested they quickly remedied it with reg twin size beds so everyone had a restful night. The bathroom in the Suite we moved to was beautiful with etched glass. As one person wrote, the neighborhood looks a little sketchey, however, my girlfriend and I walked to the park on Sunday and saw everyone leaving church. Lots of walking, riding taxis, tour buses and city buses for our visit and this hotel is close to all of these. I would definately stay there again.

“Charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

I stayed here while having dental work nearby. The rooms were large and very clean. The linens were luxurious and comfortable. The staff was very helpful...especially Leo. He helped me book a great rafting trip and find a wonderful rental car company. The continental breakfast was very good. Upon checkin, they even give you a free drink coupon for their bar. They give free phone service for anywhere in the world and a great business center. Make sure you visit their sister property, The Grand Tara.

“Decent Hotel in Light Industrial Area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2012

This was our first hotel after landing in San Jose. The hotel itself is OK, but it is located on a narrow busy street filled with trucking companies, automotive parts suppliers, and other light industry businesses. There is plenty of noise on the street and it reverberates against the two story hotel. The hotel is small and the service at breakfast was less than average. The staff needs to be much more attentive. The hotel is west of the airport. I would recommend another area perhaps away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Room Tip: I have no qualms about the room. It is the noise outside once you are out of your room.

“A hidden gem.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012

We just needed a place to stay for one night on our trip from the Caribbean coast back to Guanacaste on the west coast. My husband found the Beacon Hotel online; we didn't make reservations but just drove to it (using the help of the nice lady on Garmin!). It turned out to be a beautiful little place. The rooms were large and very pretty. The beds and linens were top notch. The internet access was quick and available. The only negative was that the small, but lovely, pool was not clean and was unusable. The area around the pool was peaceful and inviting, so that was too bad. We ate dinner in the restaurant. I had lamb chops and my husband had tenderloin, and we were both happy with our choices.

Room Tip: They all looked good to me. We had a standard deluxe, but they offer suites if you need one. The b...

“A comfortable but hidden hotel in San Jose.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2012 via mobile

My tour company booked us into Hotel Beacon for the night prior to our Costa Rica tour. It is a comfortable and clean hotel with large rooms and comfortable beds. I thought the towels could use replacements, showing their wear.

Although the tile was clean, there were stains on the floor tile that had a "soiled" appearance. That bothered me.

The staff was friendly and there is a nice bar and outstanding restaurant called Muse on site. We had thumbs up fish and steaks here that were a solid 4 stars and moderately priced.

The hotel has a well equipped fitness room and a spa with sauna. They offer a Costa Rican breakfast with coffee, nice fruit, toast, and the standard rice and beans. American breakfasts can be ordered for an additional cost.

One issue I had is that the hotel is located just outside San Jose in a town called Escazu and is hard to find. I returned from downtown in a cab and even he struggled to find it after calling the hotel twice on his mobile phone. Hardly an streets are labeled and houses and businesses do not have address numbers in this country.
