$40+tax for a double room (double bed) with private bathroom (hot water) and small breakfast. Pay with cash and you can negotiate $40 total.

The place is nice and staff is the nicest, although rooms are very basic so it seems overpriced for what you get. (Also VERY humid, but that has nothing to do with the hotel - that's the climate here). However, location is great - short 5 min walk to the village of Manuel Antonio (restaurants, shops), beaches and the Manuel Antonio National Park (10 min), so no need to depend on taxis.

It's forest all around so be prepared - it gets loud at night and early mornings (especially howler monkeys can keep you awake) but coming to Costa Rica one would think you like nature.

On a side note: money - $$ are accepted everywhere, incl. restaurants, sodas and shops. Change in colons, rates vary (the best rate we got was actually at the hotel, ask and they will exchange you some pocket money so you are not overcharged in the village when paying in $$).

We arrived in Manuel Antonio to find that the place we had planned to stay in (Cabinas Piscis across the road) was damp and dirty so we thought we'd look around and virtually across the road was the Hotel del Mar. The receptionists were very friendly and helpful and were happy to give you advice about restaurants etc. The room my boyfriend and I had was comfortable and clean enough, if a little dated. The room was large and had A/C and a ceiling fan. The location is walking distance from the beach and park although you will need to get a taxi if you want to eat on the road towards Quepos. The hotel is well-known in the area as gay-friendly and it definitely is. I would stay here again. It's great value for the price.

Had an excellent stay here for 2 days. Very comfortable & friendly vibe in the place (travelling as a single man). Hotel staff was helpful. Rooms were spartan but confortable enough -- the ceiling fan worked reasonably well, though perhaps AC would have been more comfortable. Location was excellent.

Not much to do here, but the point was to see the area and that worked out great. Off-season, rates were heavily discounted (beyond what was on the website) -- recommend just driving into town with a couple places in mind and just checking them out in person.

The Hotel del Mar was an excellent place to stay. The room was lovely, had candles and fresh flowers and the towels were arranged each day in a different shape. Breakfast was continental. The walk to
the beach was under 10 minutes. From our private terrace we could hear the ocean, birds and monkeys. It stands apart from many of the more elaborate hotels in Manuel Antonio, an aspect which we found most appealing.

The best thing about being there were Gorge and Luis. These two wonderful hosts shared much valuable information which lead us to great little out of the way gems, including quiet coves and restaurants off the beaten path.

If you like a clean and simple and very welcoming atmosphere, then this is the place for you.
