“We had a blast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2010

Pete's Place was perfect- there were 6 of us staying in the house and it was exactly what we were looking for.
We stayed for a week and it was perfect. So nice having a fully equipped kitchen, private pool, and washer/dryer!
Pete was always available to answer questions, help us arrange day travel or rental car.
We walked down to the beach (about 40 min walk down hill) and took the bus back up (about 7 min bus ride). We didn’t rent a car (except for one day for a trip) and never really needed one. The grocery store is a few blocks down the road and there are plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance.
We all had a blast!

We just got back from a two week stay at Pete`s Place. So appropriately named that you feel as though you know this man after visiting. It sincerely feels as though he has left you his home to stay in for your family to enjoy their vacation. We have 2 children, one is 7 and our baby is 10 months. We had more than enough space and all our needs were met. In fact we had overpacked, Pete provided a crib/pen and highchair. Anything we needed was 2 minutes away at the local grocery mart. We had a nice pizza lunch at local parlour as well.

The views were spectacular.Waking up in such lush greens and floral to birds was amazing. We rented a vehicle so our visits to town(s) and the beach were simple and even more so because so many people know Pete. We enjoyed our mornings at the beach and afternoons poolside at Pete`s. We were treated with the utmost hospitality, our house was cleaned every other day and we honestly felt as though we were home. It may have been Pete`s home but - it felt like ours for 2 weeks and within a few days - We already started planning when we`d come back.

Ideal for families.

Thanks Pete for everything, see you soon!

Pete's Place was a very nice place to stay. It is very clean and Pete is nearby to help in anyway needed. Itza helped booked our tours and excursions and saved us some money in the process. She also knows the better places to deal with when deciding which White Water rafting tour, which zip lining tour, etc. The view is great to both the moutains in the distance to the ocean and sunset off off the deck at night. There also was a cleaning lady that comes and cleans and washes the linens and towels a couple of times per week. We didn't see any monkeys at the pool, however the Iguana named Elvis was nearby for viewing. I agree that the wildlife is noisy but what do you expect being so close to the national forest and the jungle! It beats the hectic pace of a downtown metropolitan area. All i all a fun andventerous vacation in a nice place! Thanks Pete!

as a frequent guest in Manuel antonio, I can, without doubt say that "Pete's place", feels like a second home to me. Waking up each day to the fantastic swimming pool and the wildlife everywhere almost kept my family and I from dicovering other places in the area. The fact that you can walk within 5 minutes to, a doctor, a pharmacy a convenience store or even a restaurant bar is just one more asset. Personaly I can't say anything negative about my stay here, and i know I will be returning frequently for awhile.

thanks, pete

We had a family holiday at Pete's Place in Feb 2009 and had a fanatastic time. There were 7 adults and one 18 month old which meant we were full to capacity but the spacious house, the large balcony and the great pool area provided everything we needed. The house is in such a good location as it is walking distance to nice restaurants and the supermarket but at the same time the grounds of the house are very private. We used the local bus service lots to pop down to the beach, to the national park or to go into town so we really didn't need to rent a car. We loved the birds and the animals and just sitting by the pool surronded by the noise of the Howler monkey or watching the view from the balcony. I would highly recommend this as a house to rent if you are planning a trip to Costa Rica - we had perfect weather every single day, Pete was on hand to help us out with trips and transfers and we all had a fantastic time. Thanks again Alison

If you don't mind the sound of diesel trucks, cars and motorcycles reverberating off the walls during your vacation then Pete's Place is just what you may be looking for. There's a stuffy, glassed in deck - more like a green house - and small, tired beds, The laundry room in the house is shared with about 3 other people. The view of the ocean from the deck is just a partial peak-a-boo view through the glass of the glassed-in deck and over the very busy road. The deck is literaly about 30 feet from the road. There are windows but if you open them it only gets louder. Pete's Place is located at the top of a hill where the vehicles are at their noisiest. Security is an issue too. Pete recomennded leaving all the car doors unlocked so that if someone wanted to get into your car bad enough they wouldn't break the windows in the proccess. There is nothing quiet and private about this place and quite frankly my wife and I couldn't understand the high of opinions we read in this forum. We were looking for peace and quiet and we sure weren't going to find it here. This place is also way overpriced. With the state of the economy, tourism is way down and there are vacancies and great deals to be found everywhere. After having a good look around Pete's Place and listening to all the street noise, we turned around and walked out, very reluctantly saying goodbye to our $1000 deposit. We found another hotel well off the main drag - quiet and private with beautiful views and a private beach - for less money than what Pete was asking.

Thank you for this opportunity to respond to this review.
PLease read this review in the context of all the positive reviews we have received from many happy clients over the past couple of years.
As you can see most clients enjoyed their stay and found the house to be as advertised.
The view is expansive both to the ocean and the mountains.
The laundry room is used by cleaning lady Alicia who comes three times a week after 9:30 AM and the clients in Casa Linda, " Not three other people".
The beds are comfortable ( Orthopedic Queens) .
The front porch is glassed in to keep the rain from blowing in in the green season. It has a steady breeze , and yes, there is some road noise when you are sitting outside, mostly twice a day as people come and go from Manuel Antonio.( There is only the one road from town to the Beach and Park so it is very difficult not to hear some road noise in most places here.)
You hear virtually no noise inside the house.
Security is excellent as we have a wall around the property with secure gates at entry. ( We only suggest you leave the car unlocked with nothing in it as a matter of common sense.)
In the future we would hope our guests would stay more than fifteen minutes before making a decision to leave, without giving me and the property a chance to show them why so many are happy the stayed with us.
We have many return clients who keep coming back for some reason, and I think that is because even if they arrived in bad humour, at rush hour, they were willing to give it a shot, a were more than glad they did.
As far as price, we have been told many times that clients felt the price was fair and they received good value for their money. ( We have lowered the price due to the recession) and in this particular case we agreed to return the $200.00 price difference as they had booked before we lowered the price, as well as accepting the Cdn. $ at par ( as it was when they booked and before it dropped 20%. so I feel this showed honor on our part.
I am sorry that they did not like Pete's Place, but as we know " You can't please all of the people all of the time, but I promise you we try and will continue to do so!
Please keep an open mind and don't let one bad review stop you from coming to Pete's.
Thank you for your time, and what ever your decision we wish you great vacation, and we are here to help, weather choose to stay with us or not. Pete

I have stayed at Pete’s Place before and agree with all the positive reviews that have been expressed by others.

I just returned from a two-week vacation in Quepos, with Pete’s Place as my home away from home. I stayed at the Casa Linda (a.k.a. the Big House) for the first time and really appreciate the welcoming atmosphere of this house. It is spacious and has air conditioning. The kitchen is large and has all the essential appliances, pots and pans, and everything you need to cook a decent meal if you do not want to eat out all the time. And that’s exactly what I did on a couple of occasions. I bought foodstuff from a supermarket within a few minutes’ walk from the house and seafood from a street vendor in town. The absence of fast food chains in Quepos means that every meal is a form of support for local businesses, whether I ate at a restaurant or bought ingredients from a street vendor to prepare my own.

Pete’s Place has a beautiful big swimming pool that is larger and deeper than many hotel swimming pools. It is located at the base of his property some 100 yards from the houses. You can splash around to your heart’s content without disturbing anyone!

Pete is always there when his assistance is needed. His dogs, Moose and Maxwell, are very friendly creatures.

I have been to many places and experienced many types of accommodation. Quepos is a great retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Staying at Pete’s Place added enormously to the enjoyment of my vacation.

Pete's Place is not just another rental vacation home, it's Pete's Place!
