We stayed at Villa La Macha for two weeks in June with our two children (11 and 6) and another adult couple. The house is laid out perfectly for everyone to have their own space between the family room, patio, master suite deck, back pool area or guest house patio. We spent hours in the pool, surrounded by lush native plants with the occasional lizards walking by. The house is open air which really allows you to enjoy true Costa Rican climate. After adjusting coming from a really dry climate we needed only a day or so to adapt. The house has no air conditioning, but we actually preferred it after adjusting. You are awakened to howler monkeys, birds and insects. You feel as though you are living in the jungle - which some may not enjoy, but we found preferable to an air conditioned, closed up hotel room.
One of the best memories we have of Villa La Macha was the staff. Jota, his wife and mother were so wonderful to be with, and not doing any more cooking than reheating was a true vacation for me. The food was really great, and allowed us to not have to eat out every night. Having laundry done every day and the house straightened was a true luxury. What a great experience to spend time with ticos very casually. My children have such fond memories of all three.
Manuel Antonio is a great area to spend time in if you have kids. So much to do. If we return to Quepos we would assuredly stay here again (hoping to experience the other parts of Costa Rica on our next trip.) but I would recommend Villa La Macha to anyone. It was perfection. Also, Scott was very easy to work with to set up the reservation as well as for any information about planning as this was our first trio to Costa Rica and I was a little apprehensive about traveling to a foreign country with our kids.
