Not sure what was best about the hotel - the service, the location, the on-property canopy tour, or the monkeys.
Our first trip to Costa Rica and we couldn't have asked for a better hotel. It feels like a resort except far removed from the touristy resorts of Northwest CR.
After a long drive from San Juan to Manuel Antonio (MA), and many wrong turns when we arrived in Quepos, we landed at Rancho Grande and were VERY impressed.
The front desk personnel were friendly, introducing themselves, spoke perfect English, and accommodated any/all needs.
The wife and I traveled with our 2 sons and the cabin layout was perfect. Separate bedrooms, one for the kids, one for us. Beautiflul tiled floors, sunken bath/shower, air conditioning, and even a few English channels on satellite TV (although I forbid the kids from watching TV).
The hotel included a pool within 20 steps of the bar/restaurant, with thatched roof, where we were introduced to the local brew - Imperial.
The hotel is on a private rain forest with the rare Titi monkeys. We were disappointed on our first morning when we didn't see any monkeys but day 2 and 3 were more than impressive.
Walking through the paths of the private rain forest, we encountered numerous butterflies, poisonous frogs, a sloth, and dozens of titi monkeys, less than 10 feet away.
The canopy tour is excellent. We did another tour at Monteverde but the Titi Tour was better. The tour group was smaller, the guides were friendlier, and it was quite convenient to land at your hotel when finished.
If I had to find a negative about the hotel, it would be the road leading up to the hotel. Incredibly bumpy! The trucks bouncing all night do make quite a racket but it didn't bother us.
Overall, 2 thumbs up!
